Description (EN):

The project seeks to answer a specific question: **How can stakeholders operating in the cross-border region contribute to the protection and conservation of biodiversity, with an emphasis on Natura 2000 areas, while simultaneously mobilizing citizens and integrating urban spaces? The response is provided through a strategy based on collaboration between: (a) research institutions and (b) policy-making bodies. The Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DIMITRA (ELGO-DIMITRA), the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK), the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus and the Municipality of Heraklion are working together to implement: - Actions for the protection and conservation of endemic plant species in the protected Natura 2000 areas, including a pilot action for the natural restoration of populations in selected locations. Conservation efforts involve both in situ (on-site) and ex situ (off-site) approaches. - Promotion and awareness-raising activities for these unique species, including small-scale urban green projects that highlight the natural wealth and uniqueness of the cross-border region.
