Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

    • EuropeanGreenDeal INSPIRE is committed to transforming regional tourism and food systems across the Mediterranean, in line with the EU Green Deal objectives. Through developing innovative governance models, fostering social innovation, and nurturing resilient tourism ecosystems, INSPIRE reflects the evolving socio-economic and environmental dynamics of the region. By engaging decision-makers and building upon past successes, INSPIRE contributes to the EU’s biodiversity strategy for 2030 through policy recommendations (D.4.1) Notably, the INSPIRE PACT actively involves decision-makers in integrating project solutions into relevant governance documents at all levels, ensuring concrete progress towards these goals.
    • EUStrategyAdriaticIonianRegion INSPIRE activities in pilot regions Italy, Greece and Albania pave the way for the EUSAIR strategy implementation. They are related to all the two topics of Pillar 4- Sustainable tourism, which include diversified tourism offer & sustainable and responsible tourism management. INSPIRE supports the creation of a development & governance model for sustainable tourism in the MED region, focusing on the preservation and valorisation of agrobiodiversity. The latter lays the foundation for a diversified tourism offer by promoting unique tourism experiences held by the guardians of MED agrobiodiversity (small-scale producers & Food artisans). By emphasising the sustainable use and recognition of local biodiversity, the project directly addresses the need for sustainable and responsible tourism management. The political commitment to contribute to these strategies will be enshrined by policy makers through the signing of the INSPIRE PACT
    • Other WESTMED: INSPIRE will build synergies with WESTMED initiative by leveraging its established connections with actors from the West Mediterranean region. The existing experience and insights of the WESTMED strategy will be valuable in developing project recommendations. By contributing to debates, INSPIRE will support efforts to achieve greater cohesion at MED level. This will be accomplished through collaborative engagement with various stakeholders, fostering a comprehensive approach that enhances regional integration and promotes sustainable development. WESTMED representative will be asked to provide support in reaching decisions maker for the signature of the INSPIRE PACT
    • Other EU's growth strategy for sustainable future. the project directly contributes to directly contributes to the EU’s growth strategy for a sustainable future. It fosters inclusive and place-based development by engaging local stakeholders, empowering rural communities, and promoting social cohesion. By valuing agrobiodiversity, it supports the green transition, protects ecosystems, and enhances climate resilience. The model encourages sustainable tourism practices aligned with the circular economy and Farm to Fork strategies, generating green jobs and diversifying rural economies. Through participatory governance, it strengthens local ownership and ensures long-term impact, in line with the EU’s goals for a fair, resilient, and environmentally sustainable Europe.
    • Other This project contributes to the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 by placing agrobiodiversity at the heart of community-based tourism development. By valorizing traditional crops, local breeds, and farming practices, it helps conserve genetic resources and promote sustainable land use. The participatory model engages local stakeholders in the stewardship of natural and agricultural ecosystems, fostering biodiversity-friendly livelihoods. It also raises public awareness about the importance of biodiversity through experiential tourism, education, and storytelling. By linking economic development to biodiversity conservation, the project supports the Strategy’s goals to protect and restore ecosystems, enhance nature’s benefits to people, and mobilize societal engagement for biodiversity.
    • Other contributes to the EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism by promoting a model that integrates environmental, social, and economic sustainability through community-based tourism grounded in agrobiodiversity. It supports the diversification of local economies, particularly in rural and marginal areas, reducing dependence on mass tourism. By involving local stakeholders in the co-creation and co-management of tourism services, it ensures inclusive governance, capacity-building, and fair benefit sharing. The focus on agrobiodiversity encourages low-impact tourism experiences that highlight local food systems, traditions, and landscapes, aligning with slow and regenerative tourism principles. The project fosters resilience, seasonality balance, and territorial cohesion, key objectives of the EU’s sustainable tourism agenda.
