- Interreg MED iBLUE
- The iBLUE project contributed to the sustainable relaunch of the yachting sector (shipbuilding, nautical services, tourism) creating a Med transnational network that helped the economic upturn by sharing business models (BM) and developing the “3-PBM” methodology which integrated the 3 pillars of sustainability (environmental, social, economic).
- This new “3-PBM” methodology for business model innovation was developed, tested, refined and validated in the pilot actions:

- (FR) | The iBLUE methodology will enable the circular transformation of unsustainable tourism services by reinventing existing business models and developing innovative solutions. The adaptation of the methodology for the tourism sector will help SMEs participating in the pilot actions to get additional perspectives on their business, deepen the understanding of business model mechanics, and manage their impact holistically (reduce negative impact, leverage positive impact) and to support green transformation of SMEs with economic benefit. A crucial factor for circular transformation is ensuring economic sustainability and competitiveness increase. iBLUE’s 3PBM framework supports developing & managing robust business models, ensuring economic sustainability alongside improved environmental and social performance and impact of tourism SMEs and their innovated services.
- iBLUE outputs will be used as building blocks for MEDSSIM, Competence pack and Implementation Toolbox in WP1 (A1.1 and A1.2). - The project helped product-based companies to cope with the commoditization of their products & low-cost competition from non-EU countries by enriching their portfolios with additional services.
- The project resulted with a new servitization / service innovation methodology that improved entrepreneurs’ skills on introducing service innovation into manufacturing SMEs. The methodology was validated through pilot actions. Piloted companies increased the value delivered to their customers and improved their position on the market.
- The main deliverables/outputs of the project were:
- - Guidelines on service innovation learning system https://programme2014-20.interreg-central.eu/Content.Node/D.T2.1.4-Guidelines-on-SI-Learning-System.pdf

- THINGS+ - Interreg (interreg-central.eu) (FR) | The comprehensive tools & methods portfolio that were developed for service innovation in the small and medium-sized manufacturing companies will be adapted to be used for the service design in the tourism sector, adapted to limitations and results imperative typical for SMEs. This will support better usage of underutilized resources by creating new and/or improved services and by enabling the generation of new revenue streams from circular and more sustainable value propositions.
- Things+ outputs will be used as building blocks for MEDSSIM, Competence pack and Implementation Toolbox in WP1 (A1.1 and A1.2) as well as MEDSSIM Training and Experts Certification Model Development (A1.3). - The project enabled Central European Business Support Organisations (BSOs) to provide comprehensive support to local companies in their transformation towards I4.0. The consortium developed a BSO competence pack and implementation toolbox–a digitalization support methodology applicable to SMEs at different levels of transformation. Great effort was devoted to the pilot implementation of innovative BSO support.
- To distribute the acquired knowledge among Central European BSOs, the project partners have developed a “snowball mechanism” for sustainable down-streaming from participating BSOs to others in Central Europe. The main deliverables/outputs of the project were:

- Although still in implementation, GREENPACT already developed circular transformation hackathon and training program for SME from tourism and creative industries. Additionally, a self-assessment tool and certification scheme that will support SMEs getting certified as green actors will be developed during project lifetime. A “sustainability toolbox” for SMEs from the CCI and Tourism sector will be set up to assist in the certification and the long-term realization of the determined factors. GREENPACT wants to make sure that the key solutions (e.g. tools, scheme) will be applied by the SMEs during and after the project lifetime.

- The project focused on building the capacity and facilitating the transition from the linear approach towards the circular economy. It targeted the Agrofood and Wine sectors, supporting innovation through eco-design, resource efficiency, and new value creation spaces. This approach aimed to close value exit points in regional value chains.
- Engaging all players in the value chain was crucial for project success. To strengthen the impact of the project, embrace adopted a multidimensional approach (from training stakeholders to introducing financial instruments and testing new business models), realized by regional nodes and transnational clusters. That accelerated integration of the circular economy concept of the MED area allowed the catch up of the regional agrofood systems in terms of competitiveness.

- The goal of the SMARTMED project (Empower Mediterranean for Smart Tourism-2014-2020) was to empower the public and private sector to develop policies that enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of Mediterranean tourist destinations. The main outcome of the project was a new business model for SMART tourism, developed through the project based on conducted analyses, consultations with stakeholders, testing through pilot projects, and increasing the capacity of stakeholders to implement pilot projects. The knowledge gained in the project was transferred and capitalized at the European Union level in the form of an e-learning platform and recommendations for the development of future policies to be utilized within the future multiannual framework (for the period 2021-2027).
