In 2018 werd in de grensregio bijna 17 miljoen ton plantaardige reststromen geproduceerd, maar technische en regelgevende uitdagingen beperken momenteel waardevolle toepassingen. Gebaseerd op eerdere resultaten van het project Grassification (Interreg 2 Zeeën), richt ReJuice zich op technisch haalbaarheidsonderzoek en de toepasbaarheid van het vloeibare gedeelte van groene reststromen. Door te streven naar een continue toevoer en hoogwaardige verwerking van reststromen gedurende het hele jaar, mikt het ReJuice-project op een efficiëntere benutting van deze hulpbronnen.De sapstromen omvatten tot 40% van het totale gewicht en bevatten vaak veel hoogwaardige moleculen (nutriënten, agrochemicaliën of chemische bouwstenen), die gevaloriseerd kunnen worden. Door de volledige biomassa te benutten kan de verwaarding van groene reststromen efficiënter en hoogwaardiger, en dus duurzamer worden. Het project heeft als belangrijkste doel om minstens drie duurzame en economisch interessante waardeketens te ontwikkelen voor het verwerken en hergebruiken van de vloeibare fractie uit groene reststromen. Het project focust niet alleen op bermmaaisel en gras maar ook andere veel voorkomende groene reststromen zoals tomatenstengels, preiafval, bloemstengels en eendenkroos. Dit betekent hergebruik (Re) van sapstromen (Juice), maar ook een efficiënter gebruik van grondstoffen (Rejuice = Reduce). Specifieke doelen: het ontwikkelen van een groene residukalenderoptimaliseren van het raffinageprocesoptimaliseren van kansrijke producten in verschillende toepassingsgebieden (namelijk alternatieve eiwitten, microalgen, biologisch afbreekbare plastics (PHA kunststof), bio-meststoffen en biogas)verbeteren van de logistiektesten van fermentatietechniekenhet aanvragen van een end-of-waste status ReJuice wil een brug slaan tussen kennisinstellingen, industrie, overheid en burgers, met co-creatieclusters en een adviesraad. De kansen voor circulaire en biogebaseerde economie, evenals het belang voor het bereiken van klimaatdoelstellingen, maken dit project van cruciaal belang voor zowel Vlaanderen als Nederland.

Description (EN):

In 2018, almost 17 million tonnes of plant waste streams were produced in the border region, but technical and regulatory challenges currently limit valuable applications. Based on previous results from the Grassification project (Interreg 2 Seas), ReJuice focuses on technical feasibility studies and the applicability of the liquid fraction of green waste streams. By striving for a continuous supply and high-quality processing of waste streams throughout the year, the ReJuice project aims at a more efficient use of these resources. The juice streams comprise up to 40% of the total weight and often contain many high-value molecules (nutrients, agrochemicals or chemical building blocks), which can be valorised. By using the entire biomass, the valorisation of green waste streams can become more efficient and higher-value, and therefore more sustainable. The main objective of the project is to develop at least three sustainable and economically interesting value chains for the processing and reuse of the liquid fraction from green waste streams. The project focuses not only on roadside cuttings and grass but also on other common green residual flows such as tomato stems, leek waste, flower stems and duckweed. This means reusing (Re) sap flows (Juice), but also a more efficient use of raw materials (Rejuice = Reduce). Specific objectives: developing a green residue calendaroptimizing the refining processoptimizing promising products in various application areas (namely alternative proteins, microalgae, biodegradable plastics (PHA plastic), bio-fertilizers and biogas)improving logisticstesting fermentation techniquesapplying for end-of-waste status ReJuice wants to build a bridge between knowledge institutions, industry, government and citizens, with co-creation clusters and an advisory board. The opportunities for a circular and biobased economy, as well as the importance for achieving climate objectives, make this project of crucial importance for both Flanders and the Netherlands.
