JA-CommCare – Joint Actions for Cancer Prevention, Early Diagnosis, and Care through a Community-Based Approach aims to enhance cancer prevention and healthcare access in the cross-border area (CBA) between Greece and North Macedonia. Cancer remains a leading cause of death in both countries, and JA-CommCare brings together four key partners: Theagenio Cancer Hospital of Thessaloniki (PB1), PHI General Hospital with Extended Activity – Kavadarci (PB2), PHI University Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje (PB4), and the non-profit Association of Friends of the Anti-Cancer Theagenio Hospital (PB3). The project focuses on improving early detection, raising public awareness, enhancing professional training, and fostering sustainable cross-border collaboration. It invests in modern diagnostic equipment to enable timely cancer detection and organizes mobile screening campaigns to reach underserved and remote communities. Public awareness initiatives promote healthier lifestyles and empower citizens to actively engage in prevention and early diagnosis. JA-CommCare also strengthens the skills of healthcare professionals through targeted training and workshops, particularly in patient communication and psychosocial support. By combining medical expertise, patient advocacy, and public health outreach, the project aims to reduce disparities between urban and rural healthcare systems and ensure equitable access to quality cancer care. Aligned with EU health priorities and the European Cancer Plan, JA-CommCare offers a sustainable, community-centered model for cancer prevention and care. It not only addresses current healthcare challenges but also lays the foundation for long-term cross-border cooperation and inclusive public health improvement in the region.
