Connectivity and accessibility in the cross-border region remains one of the main structural needs. In the 2014-2020 programming period, the successful project EXTROVERT ROADS (€ 1.798.688,00) which was implemented within the framework of the Interreg IPA CBC Greece-Albania Programme, significantly upgrading and modernizing 5,53 km of municipal roads to address these challenges. This proposed project EXTROVERT ROADS 2.0 is the next step of this long-term sustainable partnership with the aim of capitalizing on the results of the original project. The partnership consists of municipalities which, as first-level local self-government bodies, implement interventions, policies and strategies at local level. The project includes co-creating extrovert development pathways in disadvantaged cross-border areas through upgrading accessibility infrastructure, bringing increased capacity and improved mobility. Thus, 8,48 km of municipal road network is being upgraded in their most disadvantaged areas with interventions for passability, resilience to climate change and road safety (pilot self-illuminating marking solutions). The achievement of 8,48 km length represents 81% of the programme’s target for output indicator RCO46 under SO: RSO 3. 2.By the outputs time saving of 120,28 equivalent man-days/year is achieved (detailed calculation provided), corresponding to a percentage of 39% of the expected target 306,60 (Target 2029) for the result indicator RCR 56.Going beyond the road interventions, this project reflects the dynamic and possibility of jointly developing solutions by overcoming the partners’ own capabilities. A new innovative digital tool (XT ROADS tool - (RCO116) is being jointly developed and adopted in the operational function of the partners which will provide a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)-based analysis that will result in a comprehensive depiction of the road environmental footprint
