The cities of Schärding and Grafenau have had a very active town twinning for years, which is to be further deepened by this project. As part of the partnership, there have already been numerous meetings of official representatives of the two cities on various topics. Now, as part of the Upper Austrian State Garden Show 2025 taking place in Schärding, the two partner cities are to establish further cross-border contacts through joint meetings at the State Garden Show grounds, in particular in the Regional Pavilion. To this end, the city of Grafenau was to be further intensified by its between the two twin cities. The common historical roots of the medieval salt marshes history between Bavaria and Austria will also be presented here. This project will also support the preparation of the 50th anniversary in 2026 of the existing town twinning in order to further involve civil society in this connection. At the end of September/beginning of October 2025, the following events are planned in the Regional Pavilion as part of this project: Presentation of the city of Grafenau by the mascot Bärtl Bär and museum educators with wheel of fortune, Bärentatzenbrennen, video clip, blacksmith tours, hemming stories, dumpling workshop, information from the Grafenauer Schnupftabakmuseum as well as artistic and culinary hands-on activities. Performances by Grafenau music bands and information from forest guides and rangers of the Bavarian Forest National Park. Project period: 01.01.2025 to 31.10.2025

Zwischen den Städten Schärding und Grafenau besteht seit Jahren eine sehr aktive Städtepartnerschaft, die durch dieses Projekt weiter vertieft werden soll. Im Rahmen der Partnerschaft gab es bereits zahlreiche Treffen von offiziellen Vertretern der beiden Städte zu verschiedenen Themen. Nun sollen auch im Rahmen der in Schärding stattfindenden oberösterreichischen Landesgartenschau 2025 die beiden Partnerstädte weitere grenzüberschreitende Kontakte durch gemeinsame Begegnungen auf dem Landesgartenschaugelände, insbesondere im Regional-Pavillon, zueinander aufbauen. Dazu wurde die Stadt Grafenau von ihrer zwischen den beiden Partnerstädten noch weiter zu intensivieren. Auch die gemeinsamen historischen Wurzeln der mittelalterlichen Salzsäumergeschichte zwischen Bayern und Österreich sollen hier dargestellt werden. Dieses Projekt wird auch die Vorbereitung des 50jährigen Jubiläums im Jahr 2026 der bestehenden Städtepartnerschaft unterstützen, um so die Zivilgesellschaft noch stärker in diese Verbindung miteinzubinden. Ende September/Anfang Oktober 2025 sind im Regional-Pavillon folgendes Events im Rahmen dieses Projektes geplant: Präsentation der Stadt Grafenau durch das Maskottchen Bärtl Bär und Museumspädagogen mit Glücksrad, Bärentatzenbrennen, Videoclip, Schmiedevorgührungen, Säumergeschichten, Knödelwerkstatt, Infos aus dem Grafenauer Schnupftabakmuseum sowie künstlerische und kulinarischen Mitmachaktionen. Auftritte von Grafenauer Musikkapellen und Infos von Waldführern und Rangern des Nationalsparks Bayerischer Wald. Projektzeitraum: 01.01.2025 bis 31.10.2025
