The DINAMIC DANUBE project represents a strategic partnership of 13 organizations, combining academic expertise and business support capabilities to jointly address the complex socio-economic challenges facing rural areas in the Danube Region. The primary focus is on mitigating the depopulation trend that threatens the region's economic backbone – small family farms, which are the main target group of this proposal- by strenghtening their capacities through lifelong learning, mentorship and technology introduction. The contemporary challenges confronting small family farms, particularly in the Southeast Danube Region, underscore the pressing need for targeted interventions to strenghten their sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience. Key obstacles such as skilled workforce migration, an aging population, lack of modern technological adoption, and weak business support ecosystems pose significant barriers that DINAMIC DANUBE aims to overcome. The project will implement a holistic approach combining education, technological integration, and capacity-building initiatives, with a special emphasis on empowering female farmers. This methodology not only strengthens local economies but also contributes to the overall sustainable development of the region. DINAMIC DANUBE will directly engage 500 small family farms from the Danube area, providing them with lifelong learning opportunities, peer mentorship programs, and facilitating the implementation of innovative technologies in underdeveloped and marginalized areas. Moreover, the project will establish a strong Danube-wide network in the bioeconomy and precision farming sectors, comprising key stakeholders who will serve as stewards for disseminating project results to other business support institutions, thereby reaching a broader base of family farms within the program area. The project findings will be proposed as policy recommendations to national-level institutions, enabling them to witness the tangible outcomes of the implemented solutions. Furthermore, the consortium plans to sustain its efforts by following up on the developed joint study and action plan, paving the way for future initiatives over the next four years. With a specific objective (SO1) Capacity Building and Skills Upscaling project directly contributes with new curriculum and on the field training brings the skills and knowledge of small family farmers to a higher level. This will not only support acquired knowledge implementation but support their production and distribution on long term, reaching several programme outputs such as facilitating the work and cooperation of the organizations across borders (3.2.4), creation of joint strategies and actions plans (3.2.2), jointly developed solutions (3.2.1) and finally participation in joint actions promoting gender equality, equal opportunities and social inclusion (3.2.5). In the second specific objective (SO2) Fostering innovation and partnering; with a number of partners from different countries the project introduced economically affordable, easy-to-use technology and digital skills to small family farmers farmers. This will create a new era of farming in Southeast European countries, bringing prosperity with technology, efficiency in production and supporting biodiversity and bioeconomy. Learning from more developed neighbouring countries such as Austria and Germany, will develop relevant curriculum and gain knowledge from established seasoned farmers who are already practicing precision farming and bioeconomy. Merging all these new innovations for small family farms in Southeast Europe will open dialogue to tackle large structural issues such as migrations, boosting agricultural economy and diversity preservation. Within this SO, the DINAMIC DANUBE is again contributing to programme outputs in particularly jointly developed solutions and pilot actions (3.2.3). The key specific objective (SO3) improves the collaboration and networking between all stakeholders, and it involves activities such as study visits, benchmarking events, creating dialogue delivering changes in existing policies with the aim of improving the educational frameworks of the countries, again fostering cooperation of organizations across borders (3.2.4 output). Finally, DINAMIC DANUBE actively advocates for policy reforms aimed at refining existing frameworks and regulations, with a specific focus on improving educational systems across the participating countries. By fostering a culture of cooperation and continuous improvement, the project improves to the collective capacity of stakeholders to address challenges and seize opportunities for sustainable agricultural development within the Danube region producing 3 main results: Joint strategies and action plans taken up by organization, organizations with increased institutional capacities due to their participation in cooperation activities across the borders and finally solutions taken up by organizations.

Expected Achievements (EN):

The first objective (SO1) of the DINAMIC DANUBE project is to assess and outline the current state of the art in the field of bioeconomy and precision farming in the Danube area in order to enable sector's sustainable growth with the emphasis on supporting small family farms through improved education support. The activities foresaw the creation of the joint European-wide bioeconomy network, the drafting of a joint study and action plan on the opportunities and challenges of the less developed partner countries, and finally, the development of the joint curriculum that is to be developed and piloted for 50 small family farms participants all over Danube's area, with a strong focus on women participants. SO2's objective is dedicated to practical knowledge sharing through mentorship programs and implementation and joint pilot actions in the partner areas in order to boost small family farms' business performances by familiarizing them with contemporary, easy-to-use, and economically affordable precision farming technologies. Furthermore, SO2 is ensuring the capitalization of the previous results from the existing and ongoing agr-support initiatives and foresees the alignment. The objective of the SO3 is to ensure the involvement of the wider network of the relevant actors on the Danube and European level in order to disseminate the developed practices and solutions and integrate the findings into the new or existing policies. The proposed activities focus on close work with the decision-makers in the forms of dialogue workshops, involvement of the relevant local or regional stakeholders in the study visits and finally organizing manufacturing events for the small family farms where they will be able to test and get acquainted with the precision farming technologies more closely.

Made in Danube - Danube Interreg Program 2014 - 2020 (EN) | Made in the Danube was a transnational cooperation aimed at transforming knowledge into marketable products for the Danube region. The program was about creating innovative tools to match the needs of companies and research institutions. There have been three existing regional initiatives, where one of them is Smart and innovative precision farming in Nitra Slovakia. The program aimed to implement the developed tools and build 15 sustainable sustainable bioeconomy-based innovation partnerships involving 40 regional companies. The event managed to gather Bio-economy communities and other stakeholders interested in the uptake of innovation tools in the field of biofuels, forestry, and smart agriculture, as well as the presence of national and international policymakers. Made in Danube project created several training handbooks related to Training Handbook - Technology Transfer; Training Handbook - Transnational Partnership; Training Handbook - Social Innovation; Training Handbook - Innovation Management; Local Action Plan for biofuels - Common Strategy for Local Action and Local Action Plan for Smart and Innovative Precision Farming. All these training handbooks will be used as a base and interwoven into the DINAMIC DANUBE project. Some of the recommendations of the named project are enhancing the cooperation between research and farming businesses, improvement of national policies, and encouragement of international cooperation. (EN), New Generation Skills - Danube Interreg Program 2014-2020 (EN) | The project talks about equipping young people with new generation skills, in other words increasing competencies for business and social innovation. The basis of the project was a lack of interest or not knowing how to do it into entrepreneurship with young adults. The program named - DYNAMIC LEARNING PACKAGE, is directly targeting youth (15 - 29) in transition from education to the labor market, to motivate them and provide the first insight into entrepreneurship. Guiding them through various modules and training materials is unleashing the potential of young people to think in different directions and potentially create a future for themselves. Program targeting youth across the Danube region leads to better economic performance, lower brain drain, and have a positive impact on the quality of life.
Gaining insight into training material, and building upon the same will contribute to the DINAMIC DANUBE project as it will build on the planned curriculum. (EN), CAMARG Clusters of Innovative Zero-km Agrofood Marketplaces for Growth (EN) | This is a project under Interreg Med Green Growth Community where a project has created a replicable e-marketplace for small family producers in the Mediterranean Region. The platform is created in a way that has a short supply chain to customers, from field to table with affordable costs, all in order to better compete with large supermarkets. CAMARG has also developed a methodology that can be applied in a similar way, driving innovation in the “zero km way”. This means shortening the supply chain and using fewer resources for transport, packaging, storage, and delivery. This project promotes friendly and close relationships with farmers and consumers, promoting a healthy and environmentally friendly business model. The DINAMIC DANUBE project will understand how it can build on the methodology CAMARG has created, and following their recommendation implement digital technologies to improve the supply chain and knowledge of Danube farms. (EN), Green'Smart - Make agriculture sustainable through smart farming - ERASMUS+ project (EN) | Green’Smart is a project developed with 7 European universities implementing new technologies in agriculture. The project aim was to lin the added values from digital technologies in crop farming and livestock farms. The project also relates to tools to use the data to mitigate and adapt to climate change for more sustainable agriculture including economic, environmental, and social challenges.
The objectives of the project were to create a high-quality European teaching network, maintain the close connection of European teaching institutions with public authority, and market in order to stay close to the future demands and adaptable teaching curriculum, train 3 student groups in agriculture, digital, crop farming and animal husbandry skills in order to mitigate and adapt to climate change, the opportunity for the large public to improve on their knowledge continues training offer in order to create a full development masters program “smart and green agriculture” for the future. All of these objectives are a great base for DINAMIC DANUBE to explore for curriculum and improvement of training skills, yet complement the program with living labs, study trips, and learning from pilot small family farmers on the spot. (EN), SMART AGRI HUBS- H2020 (EN) | SmartAgriHubs is a project under the Horizon 2020 instrument, and brings together a consortium of 164 plus partners in the European agri-food sector. The project's aim is to open innovation potential for digital transformation in European agriculture. As the project involves a large number of competence hubs that allow a place to experiment and pilot, the idea is to connect and share knowledge among all interested in the agri-food industry.
The SmartAgriHubs Innovation Portal is a web-based interactive platform with the objective of expanding and connecting the network of people interested in agriculture connecting with technology across Europe. The platform serves as a search engine, e-marketplace, library of documents, training platform, network, and matchmaking service. Due to the size of the SMART AGRI HUBS project, the DINAMIC DANUBE project will utilize specific areas related to the SMART AGRI HUBS project as there is a great base developed with various stakeholders that will be utilized for the stated project. TerritorialAgenda2030 Apart from the 2 countries (Germany and Austria) as developed markets, all the other 12 states are considered to be either in the developing or stagnant stage in the aspect of sustainability and strategic directions of certain territories. This not only addresses the disparities between developed and less developed areas but also contributes to strengthening Europe as a whole.
By aligning with the broader goals set for the region, the project can play a crucial role in achieving sustainability targets. Fighting sustainability challenges through bioeconomy is a forward-looking strategy that not only promotes environmental responsibility but also fosters economic development.
Focusing on less developed areas and marginalized communities is a commendable effort to address social and economic inequalities. By directing attention and resources to these regions, the project has the potential to uplift communities and contribute to a more balanced and inclusive development across the entire Danube region.
This approach also reflects a commitment to the principles of sustainable development, where economic growth, social well-being, and environmental protection are integrated into a holistic strategy. The DINAMIC DANUBE project, by encompassing all 14 countries and addressing various aspects of sustainability, has the potential to serve as a model for collaborative and inclusive development initiatives.
Other The Black Sea Synergy initiative is strongly supported by the EU, all in order to promote regional dialogue, tackle the challenges, and achieve results for the region of the Black Sea. The countries part of the Black Sea are also countries participating in the DINAMIC DANUBE project such as Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova. Fields of cooperation within the Black Sea region, among many are environmental protection climate change, and education showing the fields where there is consolidation and potential progress within projects.
Education being a cornerstone of the DINAMIC DANUBE project brings together partners in cooperating in lifelong learning and supporting small family farmers to create stable and prosperous farms from both Region - the Black Sea and Danube Region. The challenges within these two large regions are very similar; lack of information exchange and limited availability of accurate reliable and comparable data, "brain drain" to more prosperous countries, and modernization and unification of accreditation and certification processes, just to name a few.
By participating in the project, DINAMIC DANUBE will directly contribute to some of the Black Sea challenges sharing best practices, participating in policy advocacy, and structuring curriculum for small family farmers directly.
Other SME strategy for sustainable and digital Europe is the backbone of Europe with its 25 million small and medium enterprises. SMEs are important for competitiveness and prosperity, economic and technological independence, and resilience to external stressors. There are three pillars directly contributing to the DINAMIC DANUBE project; Capacity-building and support for the transition to sustainability and digitization; Reducing regulatory burden and improving market access and Improving access to financing. DINAMIC DANUBE will tackle capacity building and support with digitization in the agro sector and as well improve market access for small family farms, which are mainly lacking modern approaches and technology upskilling.
SME strategy directly supports education and training aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills and enhancing business. Providing educational opportunities and skill development is vital for all SME managers and staff, especially in empowering women and girls to become entrepreneurs and promoting gender balance among business creators and managers.
DINAMIC DANUBE project will directly answer these challenges with educational initiatives targeting small family farmers managed by women.
Other Digital Europe as one of the priorities also directly supports the Digitization of the European Agriculture sector. Some of the challenges discussed in digitization for European Agriculture sectors are tackled by the DINAMIC DANUBE project. The challenge the project is facing is limited benefit awareness, where many small family farmers are not aware of the benefits digital technology can bring to them as they lack the necessary skills and resources to implement new technologies. Also, the cost of implementing new digital technologies may outweigh the potential benefits, especially for small-scale farmers however, the project will address this issue by providing tools, guidance, and skills to select the best possible digital technologies.
Also using already existing platforms and ecosystems that can enable data sharing and interoperability between different applications and stakeholders in the agricultural sector will directly support the Digital Europe strategy.
