- b) "O4.6 Training manual (guide) for creating and managing the honeybee eco-routes": this manual will be utilised by new PP6 in Jordan to develop its own Routes, while the rest of the PPs will update and include more MSMEs in their already developed routes.
- c) "O4.7 Training sessions in regional cluster formation for sustainable destinations": the training material will be exploited by all PPs to recruit more MSMEs from their regions to join the Routes in an effort to promote a regional brand with a focus on the honeybee MSMEs, by establishing a unified branding approach at transnational level within this project.
- d) "O5.3 Online exhibition hall to promote the Med honeybee businesses, products and destinations - 'Lets do bee-siness'": The portal www.medbees.eu in which micro SMEs have been organised around the online exhibition hall and the eco routes attracting visitors from around the globe. The portal shall be used as the window of the cluster in world markets, both for the MSME products as well as for the regional branding and the eco route promotion. Furthermore, the portal will act as the communication channel and the binding instrument between the partner regions and a platform for extending the established online webinar centre. (EN), MED PEARLS The Mediterranean as an innovative, integral and unique destination for Slow Tourism initiatives (ENI CBC MED) (EN) | a) "O5.2 Slow tourism ICT solutions": the slow tourism products (Pearls) developed were enhanced with 10 innovative & creative ICT solutions which were developed by the project subgrantees. Led by PP2 CEEBA (MED PEARLS partner), PLAN-BEE PPs will explore the potential offered by these ICT solutions to enhance O5.2 HoneyBee EcoTourist Routes.
- b) "O5.3 Slow tourism products (Pearls)" & "O9 Network of Slow tourism Med Pearls": 190 slow tourism packages were developed by sub-grantees spread in the MED PEARLS PP countries, among which 4 of them are also PLAN-BEE countries (Egypt, Jordan, Italy, Palestine). PPs will reach out to the MED PEARLS Network of package developers in these 4 countries, especially those categorised under "Nature & Adventure" and "Gastronomy" and explore collaboration by including HoneyBeeRoutes in their packages. (EN), ORGANIC ECOSYSTEM Boosting cross border Organic Ecosystem through enhancing agro-food alliances (ENI CBC MED) (EN) | "Booklet of Contacts: Organic agriculture operators from the Mediterranean": this booklet includes contact details of organic agriculture operators, among which there are also producers of organic cosmetic producers based in Italy, Jordan & Lebanon. Led by PP3 CCIAZ (Organic Ecosystem PP), PPs will promote collaboration among the PLAN-BEE enterprises producing organic Bee products and Organic Ecosystem operators. (EN), InnovAgroWoMed Social Innovation in the Agri-food sector for Women’s Empowerment in the Mediterranean sea basin (ENI CBC MED) (EN) | "Ladies of Success" https://enicbcmed.eu/deliverable/ladies-innovagrowomed-ladies-success: 128 women were trained, mentored and financed through the InnovAgroWoMed project supporting them in their first steps towards becoming entrepreneurs. Led by PP4 ASALA (partner in this project), PLAN-BEE PPs from Italy & Palestine will reach out to their 'ladies of success' to introduce them to the Bee Economy concept inviting them to our training activities and the MED QUEEN BEE branding scheme. (EN), 3PRO-TROODOS Proactive Producer and Processor Networks for Troodos Mountains Agriculture (RESTART 2016 – 2020; Research Promotion Foundation Programs for Research, Technological Development and Innovation) (EN) | "Adding Value to Farming: Agricultural Product Certification and Improved Food": Led by PP1 FILAGRO (partner in 3PRO-TROODOS), PPs will use the methodology for developing voluntary certification schemes under 'O4.1 Med Queen Bee' & 'O4.4 Flora-based Honey' branding processes. (EN), R-ITINERA Enhancing Ecotourism ITINeraries in Network to increase the competitiveness of SMEs (Italy-France Maritime Interreg Program) (EN) | The R-ItinERA project focused on enhancing ecosustainable tourism itineraries across 5 regions of the Mediterranean area: Sardinia, Tuscany, Liguria (in Italy); Var and Corsica (in France). Initially designed for cruise tourists, these itineraries aim to boost SME competitiveness and contribute to sustainable development.
- The methodology used for developing the ecotourism itineraries is based on the following key-factors:
- a) Stakeholder Engagement: The process began by engaging relevant stakeholders, including local authorities, tourism boards, environmental organizations, and SMEs.
- b) Mapping and Assessment: The project team conducted a comprehensive mapping exercise to identify ecotourism resources (e.g., trails, viewpoints, historical sites). Sites were ranked based on their suitability for inclusion in itineraries.
- c) Route Design and Optimization: Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the team designed ecotourism routes connecting key sites. Routes were optimized for sustainability, minimizing environmental impact (e.g., avoiding fragile ecosystems).
- d) Thematic Itineraries: The team developed thematic itineraries based on specific interests (e.g., bird-watching, historical landmarks, culinary experiences). Local communities were involved in shaping thematic content.
- e) Business Network Integration: SMEs (e.g., local guides, restaurants, accommodations) were engaged to participate in the itineraries. Businesses received training on sustainable practices and storytelling.
- f) Digital Platform and Promotion: A digital platform (website or app) was developed to showcase the itineraries.
- Led by PP5 CSPI (R-ITINERA parner), PPs will upscale the methodology within WP5 for developing the PLAN-BEE HoneyBeeRoutes. These routes aim to extend the network of regional honeybee eco routes, coaching SMEs in sustainable practices. (EN), BE-HIVE Smart beehives and camera traps for bees and wasps (CYENS research centre funding) (EN) | "Smart Beehive Monitoring System" https://superworld.cyens.org.cy/project16.html): The Be-Hive project aimed to develop a multi-modal sensing system, which uses multiple sensors to collect a range of different types of data, employing various AI-based techniques to analyze and observe the bee colony’s health in real-time. The proposed system constitutes a low-cost, DIY solution, which allows beekeepers to understand the well-being of their bee colonies, be notified about the current internal and external threats to the colony in real-time, and reduce human labour by facilitating remote observations and analytic. LP CCCI and PP1 FILAGRO contacted the developers of the smart beehive system in Cyprus and confirmed the potential of this technology to record pollen types entering the hive. This serves as an authenticity signal of the flora/plants, enabling the identification of the pollen sources. The smart beehives will be part of the PLAN-BEE pilot stage and study visit in Cyprus, where project partners (PPs) and their beneficiaries will explore the potential for developing flora-specific honey. This initiative aims to support beekeepers in their efforts to achieve added value through product differentiation, promoting long-term economic sustainability within the Bee Economy concept. (EN)
