PROJECT TYPE: 2 - Youth-oriented projects ~ MAIN INTERVENTION FIELD: ~ SUMMARY: The educational landscape lacks comprehensive coverage of the socio-political, economic & technical dimensions of the ecosystem, hindering the root causes & ramifications of the eco-crisis. Our project aims to develop a holistic environmental training program for higher education students & an advocacy initiative through network building. We strive to transform individuals' perceptions of social & environmental ecosystems & confront nature preservation challenges through interdisciplinary training driven by the collaborative efforts of academics, researchers, & experts from diverse disciplines. The environmental crisis is complex & part of a global polycrisis. Despite local variations, its systematic nature shares common traits. National actors often focus on local symptoms without addressing underlying causes. The systematic structure of the environmental crisis calls for collective solutions based on contemporary approaches & evidence-based knowledge. Within this scope our goal is to -Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration to develop & promote consensus-based approaches & solutions for green transition -Foster knowledge sharing through training programs highlighting the interconnected nature of environmental & social ecosystems -Enhance blue & green upskilling among higher education students -Build capacity for long-term network & advocacy By enhancing blue & green upskilling, we anticipate a significant shift in how young adults perceive & address environmental challenges. The training programs will nurture solution-oriented mindsets among university students entering the workforce. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration & empowering young adults with skills, we envision a generation equipped to tackle environmental issues in their everyday lives. Beneficiaries extend beyond higher education students to society as a whole. Other The proposal supports major strategies and initiatives related to sustainable development, environmental education, and cross-border cooperation, as outlined in the Synergies and Complementarities. Establishing the HEEFTA network and the MoU will reflect the policies and strategies of supranational and international organizations.
Based on RSO 4.2, our proposal is connected to key policies such as SDG 8, which emphasizes sustained economic growth, inclusive employment, and decent work. It promotes the European Education Area's goals of quality, inclusive education and skills development. It also addresses the Blueprint for Sectoral Cooperation, focusing on strategic approaches for skills development within industrial ecosystems.
Our initiative resonates with the EU Active Inclusion Strategy, aiming to create inclusive labor markets and provide access to quality services for social inclusion. Additionally, it supports the Union for the Mediterranean's "Skills for Success" program, enhancing employability skills and addressing unemployment.
The focus on green and blue skills and green transition also corresponds to major strategies under Priority 2. The proposal advances the Green Deal by promoting environmental education and fostering a culture of sustainability. It supports the EU Biodiversity Strategy through conservation efforts and complements the European Climate Pact by empowering stakeholders to combat climate change. The project contributes to multiple SDGs, including Quality Education, Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Life on Land. It also fits within the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development, promoting collaboration and sustainable practices in the Mediterranean region.
