Across the South Baltic region, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public organisations face the same challenge: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing fast but most lack the skills, confidence and tools to use it effectively. Despite high digital ambitions, only a small share of companies in the region currently apply AI in their daily operations. Many find it too complex, too expensive and are uncertain about the ethical and legal aspects. This creates a growing gap between technological potential and actual use. The overall goal of HumanAIze (HAI) is to make AI understandable, accessible and beneficial for everyone. The project will help SMEs and public organisations learn what AI is and how it can be used responsibly but also how it can improve everyday work and services. By combining research, training, coaching and practical testing, HAI will create the tools and knowledge needed to turn AI from a buzzword into a real opportunity for innovation, sustainability and growth in the South Baltic region. The project’s slogan “Cooling down fears and warming up expectations,” captures our spirit perfectly. It reflects our mission to reduce anxiety and misconceptions around AI while inspiring curiosity and confidence. The change we want to create is that by the end of the project, many more organisations in the region will be ready to use AI safely and effectively. They will have access to tested tools, shared training materials, support services and real examples showing how AI can make work smarter, faster and more sustainable. Key outputs: - A cross-border AI Readiness Assessment Tool (Solution 1) that helps organisations understand how ready they are to use AI and what they need to improve. - A complete HumanAIze Training Programme and Digital Platform, offering courses, guides and best practices on responsible AI use. - A Coaching and Advisory Network that connects experts and learners across borders to share experiences and provide ongoing support. - Portfolio of four tested AI pilot solutions (solution 2-5) for customer management, construction, public transport and waste management that will serve as real-life examples for others to follow. The project’s approach combines awareness, learning and hands-on experimentation. It begins with training and capacity building (WP2), continues with personalised coaching and mentoring (WP3) and concludes with pilot testing of real AI solutions (WP4). This step-by-step structure ensures that participants not only gain knowledge but also learn how to apply it in practice. Why a cross-border approach is essential: The South Baltic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland and Lithuania) face the same digitalisation challenges, but each has unique strengths. Sweden and Denmark bring experience in innovation and industrial digitalisation, Germany in SME development and Poland and Lithuania in research and technical expertise. Working together allows partners to pool their knowledge to test solutions under different conditions and develop tools that can be used across borders. No single region could achieve this impact alone. What is new and innovative: HumanAIze introduces a human-centred approach to AI. Instead of focusing only on technology, we will emphasize people to build trust, understanding and responsible use. HAI combines social awareness with technical innovation to show that AI can be both ethical and practical. The project’s integrated method (linking awareness, advisory support and real-life testing) is new when it comes to EU-projects working with AI. By doing this in a cross-border setting, HumanAIze creates a foundation for ongoing cooperation and a shared regional strategy for digital transformation.
