The local governments and counties next to the Hungary-Slovak border solidly support the approaching between the areas. One evident sign of this is the aim of establishing a ferry line in cross border cooperation. The initiative is also supported by the touched authorities. The problem of connection is unresolved today: the only possibility to ferry across is fifty kilometers far from Rajka, at Vámosszabdi. This means a difficulty for specialists who are working on the protection of natural values and a ferry line could be a solution for this problem without damaging the natural values. The Danube means also a barrier for economic cooperation, because for the supplier firms it is impossible to reach the markets in the optimal distances. Provisions like tourism, hospitality and cultivation have a remarkable effect on the economic function in the area, and on the quality of life of the inhabitants and tourists. The ferry line would mean a possibitity for also afoot as well as cyclist connection, and this would lead to a higher turnover on both sides. The same is noticeable in the social contacts, the transborder areas can only be reached in an info communicational way, the possibility of personal contact is decreasing, so the crescendo of the relationships cannot happen.

Achievements (EN):

The Danube river means not only a beautiful natural area but also a barrier for cross-border tourism and the economy. Operating a ferry between Dunaremete (HU) and Gabčíkovo (SK) enhances both of these fields. The project contributed to the development of the surrounding area, as well. By building the harbour buildings, landscaping (parking lots, resting and refreshment places) and bicycle roads on both sides the sustainable development of these locations and the villages nearby are ensured. The related services provide employment opportunities for the locals.
