Description (EN):

The overall objective of the project in to achieve a strong regional partnership and cooperation by the Development of a Scientific Network for the establishment a scientific consensus, in order to setup common strategies and natural hazard prevention methods. The Scientific Network members will work together sharing competencies and resources to address earthquake, landslide and floor hazards which does have Trans-boundary consequences both on the economy and on the environment.

Achievements (EN):

1. Cross boundary cooperation in preventing Earthquake Landslide Foods Hazards (ELFH) strenghtened by undertaking common activities: collecting data/information about partner countries' legal framework (national state of art and state of practice of the aforementioned hazards enriched by relevant studies and bibliography, past events, recordings of technical and managerial experience, state of practice and methodological approaches of all countries participating to this proposal, regarding assessment and management of three important hazards at a regional scale (seismic, landslide and flood hazard). ) - 1 Study Report - Existing hazard assessment models assessed and appropriate hazard assessment models mutually adopted by partners and used at local and regional scales implementation exercises. - 1 Geodatabase for “seismic, landslide and flood hazards database” created; - 1 Geodatabase and 1 WebGIS Platform (http://webgis.scinetnathaz.net/scinetnathaz/) containing project’s outputs as maps and ancillary information designed, made operational and updated with additional data emerged from field measurements in pilot implementation areas. - Earthquake Hazard Assessment (EHA) at local scale implemented in wider area of Serres and Komotini in Greece; - Floods Hazard Assessment (FHA) at local scale implemented in 2 locations in Greece, 2 in Romania, 1 in Turkey, 1 in Bulgaria and 1 in Moldova; - Landslide Hazard Assessment (LHA) at local scale implemented in Greece/Serres, wider area of Komotini roadway border axis between Komotini-Nymfaia and in Turkey/Tekirdag and Samsun areas. 2. Cross border know-how and expertise transfer on ELFH assessment and prevention enhanced during pilot implementation exercises using harmonized methodologies/models and training activities: - LHA harmonized methodology applied in wider area of Serres and Komotini/Greece, a part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and Evros river catchment, costal part of Dobrogea in Romania, a wider area of Chisinau/Durlesti distict and wider Black Sea cosat area covering the R. of Moldova border and Danube Detla wider area to Nikolaev (100km away from the cosat) in Ukraine; - FHA at regional scale in pilot implementation areas implemented in Serres wider area for 2 streem basins/Greece, Tekirdag/Turkey, Evros catchment/, Samsun, Otmanliska river Bulgaria,Taita & Voinesti/Romania river basins, Larga River R. Moldova and Alyiage river in Ukraine (9 pilot areas); - Siesmic Hazard assessment at regional scale impelmented by partners in Kentriki Makedonia, Anatoliki Makedonia &Thraki - Greece, Tekirdag, Samsun in Turkey - it led to a harmonized prototype map of earthquake strong motion parameters (4 pilot areas); - Earthquake, Landslide and Flood Hazard maps on regional and local scales created to allow decisions regarding prevention measures to better prevent natural disasters. - A decision supporting tool (WebGIS) based on methodologies commonly adapted by partners developed - it supports to mitigate ELF hazard impact on the environment, the society and the economy. - 2 workshops for stakeholders organized in Turkey; - 8 open seminars organized in all 6 partner coutries; - 1 website made operational and updated (http://scinetnathaz.net/) 3. Vizibility of the Action and outputs and EU funding accomplished by: - publications in scientific journals (11 papers) and presentations to International Conferences (26 papers) - 11 Newspaper inserts designed • 20 Newspaper inserts published • Leaflets designed (1) printed and distributed (3,500 pcs) to the stakeholders during the project meetings and other events; • Brochures designed (1), printed and distributed (1,500 pcs); • 18 Posters created and presented: Eighteen (18) - presented in events organized by project partners and in events organized by different entities not participating in this project; • 27 participation in Conferences with oral presentations and acknowledgements to the project and its funding resources) ; • 4 Participation in Meetings with Project posters; • 7 Open Seminars organized; • 604 participants (stakeholders) to Open Seminars - Synergies established with Danube FloodsRisk, SafeLAND, InGeoClaoudS projects.
