According to the Regional policy of the European Union, territorial cohesion should contribute to enabling equal opportunities without excluding any vulnerable group of people and cultural heritage inputs to the experiences and to the identity of each territory. The Cooperating for Open access to Museums – towards a widEr INclusion - COME-IN! project intends to valorize the CE cultural heritage, increasing the capacities of small and medium size museums, by making them accessible to a wider public of people with different kinds of disabilities. In fact, museums encounter difficulties in adapting to the “for all” concept, because of a lack of organizational knowledge and of limited financial resources, both for investments and adequate promotion. Hence, COME-IN! will coordinate a multi-faceted network of Museums, Disability associations, Academic representatives, Training institutions and Policy makers, that will jointly define an innovative strategic approach on how to promote the accessibility to museums, in order to make them more attractive for the public: transnational high level standards will be discussed and established and know-how transfer structured. The COME-IN! guidelines for organizing an accessible collection/exhibition and the Training Handbook for museum operators will be elaborated and this approach tested along its network. Pilot actions and training to operators will be performed and their results in terms of increased visibility studied. Based on the gained experience, an innovative promotional tool, the COME-IN! label for awarding museums complying with its accessibility standards, will be developed and initially conferred to the Museums of the network. The COME-IN! label will be promoted at transnational, national and local level, in CE and beyond,thus guaranteeing its sustainability and transferability during its implementation as well as after its conclusion.

Achievements (EN):

Museums are places where everyone should be able to see and learn about our cultural heritage. However, many museums in Central Europe, encounter difficulties to be accessible for all due to a lack of organisational knowledge and of limited financial resources, both for investments and adequate promotion. Cooperating for open access to museums towards a wider inclusion (COME-IN!) tackled this by increasing the capacities of small- and medium-sized museums making them accessible to a wider public of people with different kinds of disabilities. The project achieved this change through its COME-IN! Guidelines, the training handbook for museum operators followed by 7 pilot actions and training sessions to museums operators. Based on the experience gained, COME-IN! introduced an innovative promotional tool, the COME-IN! Label to award museums complying with accessibility standards.

Expected Results (EN): R 3.2 Status of capacities of the public and private sector for the sustainable use of cultural heritage and resources achieved through transnational cooperation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

- Increased implementation capacity of the museums’ management staff in planning and organizing exhibitions compliant with the COME-IN! approach (a set of guidelines to allow open access to CE cultural heritage to all kinds of disabilities); - Increased attractiveness (number of visitors) of museums/exhibitions deriving from the adoption of the COME-IN! approach; - Increased awareness of the public and private sectors (policy makers, museums’ management staff, individuals and families with special needs, educators and carers, NGOs, associations, general public) on the needs of and opportunities for disabled people as users of cultural resources; - Extended and strengthened linkages between CE small and medium size museums; - Reinforced cooperation between and among cultural institutions, policy makers, scientific institutions and disability associations, through the endorsement of the COME-IN! approach and the development of the COME-IN! label to be transferred also to other areas in CE and beyond; - Set up of a network of museums applying the COME-IN! approach/label.
