Description (EN):

The overall objective is to set up a self-sustaining governance structure called Baltic Sea Tourism Center (BSTC) whose area of responsibility focusses on the implementation of strategic and operational activities under the EUSBSR for tourism. The BSTC will serve as a liaison office associating the key stakeholders for sustainable and responsible tourism development and cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. It will represent the common interests of business, academia and politics. Major operational tasks are to develop and implement joint long-term tourism marketing strategies, promote the image and awareness of the Baltic Sea region as a coherent travel destination and to elaborate, support and cluster tourism projects and initiatives to strengthen the Baltic Sea region cooperation. The BSTC further aims to facilitate the conversion of projects, projects results and temporary networks into sustainable long-term processes. Key tourism stakeholders as pillars of the BSTC are national and regional marketing and development organizations as interfaces between politics, economics/business and science; policy area Tourism under the EUSBSR; relevant enterprises from the sector. Associated and committed partners of the BSTC are national and regional ministries and authorities, institutions, organizations and enterprises of a macro-regional importance, which contribute to and represent the aims and objectives of the BSTC. The BSTC is seen as a long term process and should be established as a self-sustaining governance structure. The flagship involves partners from Denmark Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden as well as Euroregion Baltic. Information added on 2020-05-20, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): The organisation team of the Baltic Sea Tourism Forum 2020 will evaluate the possibilities to address the topic COVID-19, which could possibly include the presentation of best practices or the future directions for the Baltic Sea Region tourism industry with and after COVID-19. Achievements (EN):

What did the project change? The Baltic Sea Tourism Center (BSTC) has been created as a service platform for a united tourism development in the South Baltic region. The BSTC is allowing a constant exchange between organisations from different countries, allowing the Baltic Sea region to develop sustainable tourism together. What was the challenge? Tourism strategies and offers are usually developed regionally or nationally across the Baltic Sea region. There was no roof organisation for the development of sustainable tourism across borders along the Baltic Sea's coast. In order to address joint challenges across the coastal areas of the Baltic Sea - such as the attractiveness for tourism in all the year's seasons - a joint cross-border organisation became necessary. What did the project create? The project created the cross-border service unit, the "Baltic Sea Tourism Center", a roof organisation for tourism stakeholders throughout the Baltic Sea Region that combines different services and actors in the field of sustainable tourism development, providing a platform for communication and cooperation.
