Description (EN): The subject of the project is to undertake activities aimed at enhancing the accessibility and promoting cultural and natural objects in Żary and Weißwasser, including:
(1) the adequate equipment of the area with infrastructure, buildings and devices which enable and facilitate visitors to use the environmental and cultural heritage:
a) the construction of tourist stops along inward routes to Żary (streets: Żagańska, Zielonogórska, Piastowska, Serbska, and Zgorzelecka), and to Weißwasser (streets: Muskauer Straße, Heine-Heine Straße, Bautzener Straße, Tiergartenstraße, and Halbendorfer Weg). Each tourist stop is a parking space with parking slots, including places of rest.
Places of rest will be equipped with the following objects:
- a concrete table with banks,
- a stand with information boards,
- stands for bicycles,
- a waste bin;
b) the construction of a tourist stop next to the Green Forest in Żary, including:
- a parking space with 43 parking slots, including 2 slots for persons with disabilities, and an internal road with a one-side pavement and a bus stop and a dewatering system,
- a recreational square equipped with a shed with a fireplace (a symmetric shed with 8 sides of equal length, with a wooden and metal construction, and a smoke hole in the roof), places of rest (concrete tables with banks), stands for bicycles and stands with information boards,
- a fencing of the area, - waste bins, - planting plants,
c) the marking of tourist routes,
d) the creation and equipment of tourist information points, including an Info-Kiosk, (2) promotional activities aimed at enhancing the recognisability and associations with the region, and facilitating to reach a wide range of recipients (including those living outside of the support area):
a) the preparation, production and assembly of information and promotional boards at tourist stops and railway stations,
b) conferences aimed at disseminating the knowledge about the geological structure of the post-glacial valley of the Green Forest and of the Muskau Bend,
c) the preparation and production of information and promotional materials in two languages (folders, brochures, maps, and an Internet website).

b) Errichtung einer touristischen Raststätte am Sorauer Wald in Żary mit:
- Parkplatz mit 43 Stellplätzen, darunter 2 für Behinderte, mit e. Innenstraße m. einseitigem Gehweg, einem Stellplatz f. Busse u. Entwässerung;
- Erholungsplatz ausgestattet mit Überdachung für Lagerfeuer (symmetrische Überdachung, auf dem Grundriss eines gleichschenkligen Achtecks, aus Holz u. Metall, mit e. Rauchöffnung an d. Spitze, Rastplatz (Betontische mit Bänken), Fahrradständer, u. Ständer mit Infotafeln
- Geländeumzäunung,
- Müllkörbe
- Anpflanzungen,
c) Beschilderung v. tourist. Wegen
d) Errichtung u. Ausstattung v. Tourismusinfostellen darunter Infokiosk,
(2) Fördermaßnahmen zur Steigerung d. Erkennbarkeit u. Assoziierung mit d. Region, die es ermöglichen, ein möglichst breites Publikum anzusprechen (darunter auch von außerhalb d. Fördergebiets)
a) Erstellung, Errichtung u. Montage v. Info u Werbetafeln an tourist. Raststätten u. Bahnhöfen der Städte
b) Konferenzen z. Wissensverbreitung ü. d. geol. Aufbau der eiszeitlichen Moräne d. Sorauer Waldes u. Muskauer Faltenbogens
c) Erstellung u. Ausführung zweisprachiger Info- u. Promotionsmaterialien(Folder, Broschüren, Landkarten, Website).
Read more Achievements (EN): At the request of the city of Żary (Poland) in cooperation with the Great District City of Weißwasser/O.L., a joint project under the INTERREG Poland-Saxony 2014-2020 funding programme was launched: The conservation and promotion of geological benefits of the Muskau fold arch and the Ice Age moraine of the Sorauer Forest, as well as the activation of cooperation between the cities of Żary and white water.
The aim of the programme was to deepen cooperation to overcome barriers to development in the Polish-Saxon border area. The project related to Priority Axis I — Common Natural and Cultural Heritage and its main theme was the construction of 5 tourist stops at the entrances (in Weißwasser each on the Federal, State and District Roads). At these locations, bilingual information boards for residents and guests (tourists) with information about the neighbouring regions beyond the border, especially the UNESCO Global Geopark Muskauer Faltenbogen in Germany and the diving moraine Sorauer Wald in Żary were set up. Furthermore, tables, benches, bicycle stands, paper baskets and car parking spaces have been completed.
There was also a tourist information with staff. In Weißwasser, it is now located in the station building and welcomes visitors to the city.
Joint conferences were also held on the construction of the glacial moraine of the Sorauer Forest and the Muskau fold arch.

Read more Achievements (DE): Auf Antrag der Stadt Żary (Polen) in Zusammenarbeit mit der Großen Kreisstadt Weißwasser/O.L. wurde im Rahmen des Förderprogrammes INTERREG Polen-Sachsen 2014-2020 ein gemeinsames Projekt mit dem Titel: Erhaltung und Förderung von geologischen Vorzügen des Muskauer Faltenbogens und der Eiszeitmoräne des Sorauer Waldes sowie Aktivierung der Kooperation zwischen den Städten Żary und Weißwasser bewilligt.
Das Programmziel war die Vertiefung der Zusammenarbeit zur Überwindung von Entwicklungsbarrieren im polnisch-sächsischen Grenzraum. Das Projekt bezog sich auf die Prioritätsachse I - Gemeinsames Natur- und Kulturerbe und sein Schwerpunktthema war die Errichtung von jeweils 5 touristischen Raststätten an den Ortseingängen (in Weißwasser jeweils an der Bundes-, Staats- und Kreisstraße). An diesen Standorten wurden zweisprachige Informationstafeln für Einwohner und Gäste (Touristen) mit der Auskunft über die Nachbarregionen jenseits der Grenze, besonders über den UNESCO Global Geopark Muskauer Faltenbogen in Deutschland und die Stauchendmoräne Sorauer Wald in Żary eingerichtet. Weiterhin sind Tische, Bänke, Fahrradständer, Papierkörbe und Pkw-Stellflächen geschafft.
Es wurde auch eine Tourismusinformation mit Personal geschafft. In Weißwasser befindet sie sich inzwischen im Bahnhofsgebäude und nimmt die Besucher der Stadt in Empfang.
Ebenso fanden gemeinsame Konferenzen u.a. über den Aufbau der eiszeitlichen Moräne des Sorauer Waldes und des Muskauer Faltenbogens statt.
