The Romanian-Bulgarian cross-border region is extremely rich in cultural and natural heritage (which is the basis for numerous tourism activities, an important source of added value for any vacation) but suffers from a poor promotion of this heritage with negative effects on the number of tourist overnights in the area. The CBC Audio Travel Guide offers the solution to the tourist retention problem, by improving the sustainable use of natural heritage and cultural heritage and by better promoting the tourism attractions and activities in the cross-border area. The project objectives will be achieved through the design of 5 comprehensive tourism products specific to the RO - BG cross-border area and the provision of a new, integrated audio travel guide service. With a total budget of 701,396.75 euro, CBC Audio Travel Guide will generate the following results: an inventory of the 1.500 main tourism attractions in the region, divided into 5 categories, an integrated audio travel guide service, offering information about the tourism attractions. This service will be available by calling a dedicated phone number or, for those who have an Internet connection, by downloading a mobile devices application that integrates the GPS tracking function or by using the dedicated audio guide section on the project’s website.Through jointly valorizing and raising awareness on the natural and cultural heritage of the region, the project aims to a 32.400 overnights increase by 2018.

Achievements (EN):

The main deliverables were finalized, the project website https://audiotravelguide.ro/en/ guide and the mobile application (travel guide): www.audiotravelguide.eu. 720 touristic objectives in Romania and 297 touristic objectives are now presented on the internet and the mobile application (including GPS, audio and written version).

Expected Outputs (EN):

Problem: lack of promotion for tourism activities in the programme area leading to shorter stays Solution: By using a green and more efficient use and promotion of the natural and cultural heritage, the project will lead to an increased number of overnight stays in the cross-border area 32.400 overnights Note: we estimate that minimum 0.5% of the tourists in the cross border area will use the service: 0.5% x 1.8 million tourists/ year x 3.6 average stay = 32.400 overnights increase
