Description (EN):

One major territorial challenge of the Danube area is the improvement of the innovation capabilities of the regions SMEs, especially regarding bioeconomy which has the economic potential to impact a wide range of industries and services but also the sustainability of the society. The development of new products and innovative services by companies in the Danube Region, especially SMEs, requires the access to scientific and applied research knowledge combined with innovation expertise. The collaboration between research organisations (RTO) and companies is crucial. The project will improve the framework conditions for this collaboration process in order to transform ideas into marketable products and services by making local scientific knowledge available at transnational level in the field of bio-economy. The 3 domains smart agriculture, sustainable forestry and bioenergy will be addressed, which are priorities identified for the Danube territory by the JRC. These 3 priorities are related to the 3 regional initiatives in Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia involved in the project, where pilot actions will be performed to test and benchmark the developed instruments in different regional environments, which are representative for other Danube regions and relevant for the entire area. By paving the way to three viable innovation hubs in bioeconomy and involving companies, RTO, public authorities and civil society from 10 countries, Made in Danube generates significant changes for all target groups within the quadruple helix throughout the entire region to improve the framework conditions for innovation and support the implementation of regional Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3). The innovative interdisciplinary approach will lead to transnational innovation partnerships involving companies and RTO. Innovation tools specific for bioeconomy will be developed. The social dimension of innovation will be considered by involving civil society and public authorities. Information added on 2020-05-12, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the corona virus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): Focus on developing new tools for smart and innovative precision farming, enhance competences in sectors and support the development of the biofuel industry.

MADE IN DANUBE: MAIN RESULTS; NEW CONCEPTS FOR INNOVATION PARTNERSHIPS AND SUSTAINABLE KNOWLEDGE & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER IN THE BIO-ECONOMY SECTOR: Among the main project objectives was the intensification of cooperation among project partners with key actors in the Programme Area. Within Made in Danube we achieved: 15 Innovation Partnership Agreements; the development of 3 online innovation tools; 30 Techonology Offers and 28 Technology Requests performerd and inserted into the Platform with free access; Supporting 40 companies collaborating with RTOs; Development of a Common Strategy to bring R&D results on market; Establishment of Bio-economy network in the Danube Region. MADE IN DANUBE - FRAMEWORK CONDITIONS; OBJECTIVES; OUTPUTS: Reviewed and improved framework conditions for innovation in DR by Elaborating a Roadmap to achieve a Common Strategy on how to transform R&D into marketable products/services and implement it in the 3 existing regional initiatives (Novi Sad, Vukovar, and Nitra) – Roadmap to Improve framework conditions for Innovation. Supported the R&I policy dialogue in the DR with EUSDR PA Steering Groups and ensure exchange information on activities and cross cutting issues related to Bioeconomy during Policy Dialogue Workshops. Transferred the Common Strategy in 3 Local Action Plans for the regional Initiatives that will be implemented, based on tools developed Common Strategy to bring R&D results on the market Common Guidelines to support transformation of ideas into marketable products and services for the 3 existing regional initiatives: Smart and innovate precision farming, Wood sector and Bio-fuels). MADE IN DANUBE - POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS The Danube Region needs to have concrete & tangible results regarding research and innovation in Bio-economy sector. Made in Danube defined priorities for the improvement of innovation and framework conditions for Agriculture & Forestry and Biofueld in the Danube Region Made in Danube capitalized on existing information: study, policy dialog, working with PA from EUSDR, previous projects, analyze the needs of the existing regional initiatives.

Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to improve framework for research and innovation (composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project main result is to intensify the cooperation of project partners with target groups (key actors) in the Programme Area leading to 15 innovation partnerships and 40 entreprises (SMEs) cooperating with research and technological organizations (RTO). The project can increase the number of SMEs cooperating with RTO with the help of several specific tools developped and actions performed specifically to respond to the needs of the target groups and related to the 3 existing regional initiatives: a) A roadmapping process to develop and implement a common strategy on innovation partnerships for Regional Public Authorities (RPA), Business Support Organisations (BSO) representing SMEs and RTO, which can be transferred to regions with similar challenges in Bioeconomy. b) Specific innovation audit tool for the domains of sustainable agriculture, forestry and bioenergy generating 30 innovation audits of SMEs to identify needs. The audit tool will benefit SMEs, but also BSO, clusters and associations in bioeconomy. c) Concrete technology offers (25) and requests (20) from RTO and companies to improve the use of innovative technologies and services in the frame of innovation partnerships, d) Trainings (7) on transnational innovation partnerships and technology transfer for 140 SMEs and RTO, e) Best practices workshops (3) concerning cross-cutting issues for social aspects like life-long learning, ageing society or rural development in bio-economy for RPA and Civil Society.
