BALKANET project is inspired by the following three elements: the awareness that it is strategically important to facilitate innovative business models in agro-food sector of BMP area, the conviction that is important to improve transnational cooperation opportunities of the target area, it is necessary to enhance an operative Network through local SME's and research centres with particular regard to young innovators skills, the importance of comunication transferring of best practices to foster sustainable growth of the area. The overall objective of the project is to favour the potential of innovation, the promotion of applied research and the support to SMEs sustainable adjustment capacity. The added value of the project is to cover strategic agro-food topic areas: 1) Agriculture/farming methods and techniques, 2) Product processing, 3) Packaging and marketing. The project proposal answers to some of specific needs of the target areas: optimize the role of a key local activity like agro-food sector; face to the actual socioeconomical frame, conditioned by high unemployment rates, especially of young people; to increase SME's competitiveness with special reference to sustainable innovative models. To address such problems and needs identified, the project will produce some relevant outputs connected to the following three specific objectives: 1) Identifying, analyzing and sharing of existing agro-food best practices and innovative business models valorisation in the BMP area, 2) Transanational Cooperation Network between public/private research centers and local enterprises in order to improve SME's efficienty and adjustment capacity, with particular reference to the improvment of young innovators skills and business competences, 3) Raising awareness, transferring knowledge and fostering common understanding about the importance of sustainable business innovations in agro-food sector of BMP area. The main outputs are: 1. the creation of Balkanet Transnational Network of agro-food SME's, research centers, public administrations and local stakholders mainly with the support of digital devices; 2. the transferring activities through best practices and innovative agro-food experiences and to foster commercialization, internazionalization and connections of local SMEs and their agrofood product/processes (Balkanet Innovative Agro-food Models BtoB meetings); 3. Focusing on civil society and local stakeholders to share project outputs and to promote a new model of sustainable socioeconomic growth (Transnational Balkanet agro-food Festivals). The project approach (quadruple helix) is based on the development of joint analyses, methodologies and ICT services that favour an integrated transnational process. According to this Balkanet can secure critical mass, enhancing mobilisation capacity and innovation potential to overcame markets fragmentation.

Expected Results (EN):

The project results are: 1) Improvement of knowledge and common awareness about innovative and sustainable business models in agro food sector through the exchange and relationships between enterprises and research institutions (linked to SO3); Enhance process/product innovations for local agro-food SMEs (linked to OS4); Foster skill visibility and job opportunities for innovators through local SMEs (linked to OS5). The project expected results are captured by Balkan Med program result indicator and directly contribute to the achievement of the desired challenges of the programme area. These project results will be reached through the enhancement of skills and innovations (agriculture/farming methods and techniques, product processing, packaging and marketing) within a transnational cooperation environment that favours exchange and create a common and shared pattern for agro-food SMEs and research centers, even outside the BMP area. Territorial innovation capacity will be improved thanks to the wide area covered by the project that face to similar economical and social problems and challenges with particular reference to the agro-food sector. The transnational group of volunteers young innovators will cooperate with n.5 SMEs for each topic area (Agriculture/farming methods and techniques, Product processing, Packaging and marketing) for each involved country (the total number of SMEs involved is 45). The project outputs will be freely available on the web platform and will be addressed to at least n. 90 local enterprises (30 per each country of which 10 per each topic area) cooperating with research institutions. The expected project result, will allow to at least n. 27 SME's to introduce product or processes innovations. These 27 SMEs will be distribuited as follow: n.3 SMEs per each topic area (x3), per each country (x3).

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main outputs of the project are: WP3-1) BMP agro food context analysis and benchmarking document. Challenges and positive aspects collection of socioeconomic frame of BMP area. 2)Creation of agrofood sector innovative best practices and product/processes ideas DataBase 3)Creation of local stakeholders Group Data Base WP4-1) Project Platform Network - official website 2)Digital web service system for all subjects involved in the project and freely available for external stakeholders. (Project Platform update) 3)Creation of a Guideline document to be used by the pilot project network in order to create innovative business model. 4)Creation of a communication and marketing roadmap tool for new innovative enterprises. WP5-1)Organization of best practices field visits in order to faciltate the knowlege transfer and the cooperation actions among local stakeholders. 2)Organization of Best Practices Sharing Meetings to improve transnational connections through SME's, young innovators and researchers. Project results will be presented and valorized in the transnational agrofood festival WP2-Transnational BMP Agrofood Festivals in order to present the results of the project pilot activities, success stories and to guarrantee the project platform formal adhesions WP3 is linked to SO3 "Identifying, analyzing and sharing of existing agro-food best practices and innovative business models valorisation in the BMP area" WP4 is linked to SO4 "Transnational Cooperation Network between private/public research centers and local enterprises in order to improve SMEs efficienty and adjustment capacity with particular reference to the improvment of young innovators skills and business competences" WP5 is linked to SO5 "Raising awareness, transferring knowledge and fostering common understanding about the importance of sustainable business innovations in agrofood sector of BMP area".Platform and web services for local SMEs will be free, public and available after the project closure.
