Within the 2,5 years of implementation TRANSDANUBE.PEARLS will establish a network of destinations committed to sustainable mobility in tourism– the “Transdanube.Pearls”. Being part of this network will increase the visibility of the participating destinations offering their visitors the unique possibility to travel the Danube with sustainable means of transport. On the other hand, the network will facilitate the cooperation of stakeholders from the mobility and tourism sector of different levels. Common standards and appropriate organisational structures secure the operation of the network beyond project lifetime. Trainings provide local and regional stakeholders with the capabilities to further develop sustainable mobility services. The knowledge acquired during the trainings will be enriched by the experiences gained during the development and demonstration of mobility and information services in the project - mobility services that will contribute to overcome gaps and improve quality especially on the last mile getting to the destinations and within the destinations. By better combining public transport and cycling the project will furthermore improve intermodal travel chains which will increase the quality and resilience of the whole transport system. Additional efforts will be undertaken to improve the access to user-friendly information about existing mobility services. While regional mobility centers will act as one-stop-shops for mobility in the regions, international tourism and mobility information platforms will allow tourists to inform themselves about their possibilities to travel the regions along the Danube without using the private car. Specific sustainable tourism mobility offers will provide attractive packages for visitors preferring to follow a given route.

Achievements (EN):

Partners of the project Transdanube.Pearls reached their major goal: the establishment of a Danube.Pearls network, which will continue to jointly elaborate services for sustainable traveling from the Black Forest to the Black Sea and provide user-friendly tourism information for tourists and inhabitants beyond project lifetime. Representatives of 11 management organizations from the Danube region have been certified as flagship regions for promoting sustainable mobility and tourism services and officially became a Danube.Pearl. This network of Danube.Pearls aims at informing visitors and citizens about the variety of sustainable travel options by taking the bus, train, bicycle or environmentally friendly ships. To increase the visibility of the Danube.Pearls network and promote tourism mobility packages which offer the opportunity to explore the Danube region sustainably, the embers decided to establish an internet landing page. The recently launched website informs about the Pearls, sustainable mobility within and between the regions and offers inspiration for the upcoming holidays. With the slogan “Discover hidden Pearls along the Danube”, a new travel guide provides information about 13 Pearls including touristic highlights, mobility offers for reaching the attractions sustainably and bookable tourism packages such as an organized bike tour from Budapest in Hungary to Kladovo in Serbia. Additionally, the brochure provides inspirations for tourists to travel the destinations and informs about possibilities to travel sustainable from one destination to the other by train, bike or bus. The partners have managed to establish more than 10 physical mobility information centers throughout the Danube region. The mobility information centers inform tourists and inhabitants about possibilities to reach their destinations with sustainable means of transport. They are important tools for changing people’s attitudes towards mobility and their travel behavior. Furthermore, they will play a crucial role in implementing the concept of sustainable mobility in the future network of Danube.Pearls. 15 partners from 9 Danube countries worked together for 2,5 years to improve possibilities to travel the Danube region sustainably. The implementation of mobility information centers along the Danube, bike rental and bike carriage systems, flexible transport systems as well as trainings on transnational and national level demonstrate just some of our project activities, next to the highlight of our work, the Danube.Pearls network that will continue foster the concept of sustainable mobility beyond project lifetime. http://www.interreg-danube.eu/news-and-events/newsletters

Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to strengthen environmentally-friendly, safe and balanced transport systems (survey based composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project is aiming at strengthening existing cooperation between stakeholders from the transport and tourism sector from different levels (local, regional, national). The main project outputs will RAISE the AWARNESS for the benefits of sust. mobility in tourism and INCREASE the CAPACITY & CAPABILITY of local & regional stakeholders from the transport and tourism sector to develop services bringing forward the concept of sustainable mobility in tourism in the Danube region. The project will RAISE AWARNESS for the benefits of sust. mobility by: - Implementing pilot actions (9) and mutual learning activities (2+42) demonstrating the benefits of sust. mobility and information services and providing formats to exchange ideas & discuss implementation options. It will INCREASE the CAPABILTIY of the local & regional stakeholders by: - Training stakeholders to become certified sust. mobility managers (100). - Providing guidelines for the implementation of sust. mobility and information services (6). It will INCREASE the CAPACITY of the local & regional stakeholders by: - Developing the network of Transdanube.Pearls, which will establish operational units (institutional structures & staff) on the regional level and a transnational management organisation supporting the single pearls by joint promotion activities, provision of know-how, etc. - Mobility information centers, acting as drivers for the development, coordination and information of existing sust. mobility services (10).
