Description (EN):

High performance computing (HPC) is an emerging general-purpose technology. It can improve framework conditions for innovations by drastically increasing effectiveness of innovations and reducing product development time. However, while most advanced HPC infrastructure and knowledge are located in well-off western parts of the Danube region, enterprises – especially SMEs – from its eastern parts have limited access and competencies. Transnational cooperation in the region is limited, which is further hindering innovation. The main objective of InnoHPC is to create transnational HPC laboratory for co-designing knowledge-intensive innovative products with high value-added in transnational value-chains. Key outputs are transnational InnoHPC Lab pooling regional HPC infrastructure and competencies, web platform providing HPC access, integrated services and capacity building tools, and sustainability toolkit, to support durability of InnoHPC Lab beyond the project. To achieve them, InnoHPC will, first, conduct a focused regional HPC benchmark, second, design and create a transnational InnoHPC Lab, third, develop HPC web platform providing HPC access and capacity-building tools and finally, pilot-test InnoHPC Lab and the platform with two pilots with SMEs in electronic and automotive sectors. InnoHPC targets SMEs and clusters, providing the opportunity to increase efficiency of innovations and join transnational value-chains in the Danube region. Higher education and research institutions with HPC will get access to exciting real-life cases and opportunities to exploit their entrepreneurial potential. Policy-makers and business support organizations will receive a valuable institutional support for their policies and initiatives. InnoHPC project is a pioneering effort to improve framework conditions for innovation by providing unique institutional and technological infrastructure, designed specifically to pool and exploit HPC infrastructure on a transnational level.

Achievements (EN):

Our activities managed to contribute towards not only awareness raising but also to better cooperation between SMEs and HPC centers/providers. Important steps were taken to initiate a new level of collaboration in the respected field. Overall, the project achieved some important milestones and provided the readers with an important result: the book published that is a comprehensive trans-national analysis with national case studies on HPC. The book titled GO WITH THE FLOW contribute towards dissemination and industrial innovation in the Danube region. Additionally, a new initiative was formed, in the shape of the InnoHPC LAB, with partners agreeing on continuation of joint work in the field of HPC with the aim to bring HPC closer to SMEs also in the Danube region. http://www.interreg-danube.eu/approved-projects/innohpc/campaigns

Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to improve framework for research and innovation (composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

InnoHPC will establish InnoHPC Lab, connecting SMEs and business associations and clusters, HPC providers, regional development agencies and business support institutions. This will intensify transnational cooperation in development of high value-added and technology-intensive products and lead to more effective research collaboration and increased innovative outputs of enterprises, especially SMEs, utilizing the existing hard HPC infrastructure and soft competences for faster development of new products and commercialization of scientific expertise. Web platform providing HPC access and structured services will be the hub connecting the newly established transnational clusters and providing technology transfer. InnoHPC is focused particularly on SMEs from automotive and electronic industries with potential to operate as Tier I and Tier II suppliers to multinational companies. InnoHPC will contribute to intensity of cooperation of key actors in the region, who are also target groups of the project. Intensity of cooperation is a predominantly qualitative concept, but the project will contribute one (1) transnational institution InnoHPC Lab and through two (2) pilot projects we will contribute to formation of previously non-existent transnational value chains in electronic and automotive industry with participation of at least twelve (12) enterprises.
