Description (EN):

The SAIL overall objective is to stimulate active ageing and longer independent living by identifying new ways of helping people remain independent for longer, more self-reliant and less dependent on traditional health care and social care services. Different from the current, mono disciplinary approach, SAIL will introduce a social innovation process of co-creation to identify new partnerships and opportunities, especially in unlikely combinations between different sectors, to develop new, sustainable business and service models that encourage active ageing.

Achievements (EN):

The partnership within this project is particularly excellent. The SAIL partners inspire and support each other by sharing experiences, thinking along and giving advice. In addition, the project partners have really gotten to know each other; their work, their organizations, their region and their culture. Quite a few have actually become (cross border) friends. The main highlight of this reporting period was undoubtably seeing all those early pilot ideas, as described in the application form many years ago, matured in the explore and design and develop phase, now becoming a reality. Invitations, pictures, movies, booklets, reports showing all these different initiatives actually taking off. The smiles on the faces of the people who pet a dog in a dog cafe for the first time in forever, the story of two widowers who met at an organized lunch and who now go for a walk together almost every evening, the laughter rolling through the library as a group of elderly are sitting in a circle doing exercises, making fun of each others disabilities. And there are many, many more examples like this. This is what we have been working towards for all these years and it is incredibly rewarding to now finally see the results! In addition, for the expert group, the highlight has been seeing systems that they designed and created, finally beginning to be populated with actual data from the projects, and being able to do an initial analysis. Furthermore, the project has already known some highlights on project partner and pilot level: PP2 (Impuls Zeeland), PP3 (GGD Zeeland) and PP4 (SportZeeland) joined forces and organized a very succesful vitality market. PP5 (Westtoer) released a magazine for second residents, resulting in over 1600 subscriptions. PP6 (Norfolk County Council) has expanded the number of dementia friendly walks to nine, producing leaflets which have been spread far and wide. PP9 (AFEJI) has set up another partnership (besides the one with Decathlon) with Newfeel, a sports brand, included two more AFEJI establishments, and organized a large walking event. PP10 (City of Ostend) has been contacted by the cities of Ghent, Bruges, Kortrijk, Lommel and Mechelen wishing to adopt their Silver Routes and Silver Sessions.

Delivered Outputs (EN):

The project addressed the issue of an aging population in the 2 Seas area, and more specifically that of living independently despite becoming older. In order to test and identify the best ways to help senior citizens, the partnership set up 10 pilots in the partner regions under two themes: - 5 pilots in the movement & sports sector. - 5 pilots in the wellbeing & food. The goal was for them to be created through social innovation and with the active participation of elderly and service providers (incl. business, local authorities and health care providers), based on specific needs of the elderly and by looking at local potential in the region. Partners looked forward, through the pilot activities to the elderly becoming more active, healthy and independent, but also to be coached in social innovation processes, thus contributing to an increased independence and a durable process. Pilots also served as contribution to the last output, which was a feasibility study to determine the effectiveness & sustainability of the SAIL process and applications to pave the way for wide-scale implementation.
