Description (EN):

Industry 4.0 (I4.0) is the next industrial revolution. Manufacturers are focussing on client-specific production and added-value products. In Germany 84% of the companies feel the pressure to digitize and 57% will significantly change their business model due to the digital revolution. Germany is world leader in this revolution. The project main objective is to close the gap between the region and Germany & other leading countries, by developing and demonstrating the necessary key technologies towards companies, in this way facilitating the conversion towards I4.0.

Achievements (EN):

INCASE developed pilots and performed research related to a selection of key automation technologies. The project delivered 10 thematic demonstration trajectories to demonstrate the new technologies and feasibility to engineers and technicians in order to create awareness and an early market uptake. Specific topics where demonstrators were developed are PROFICloud for connecting distant factories, stress-testing on PROFINet for creating reliable networks, power line communication as alternative communication network and high frequency power quality, networked control and integrated design, more specific mobile robotics, high-end hardware targets and co-simulation. INCASE developed pilots and performed research related to sustainable engineering. Specific topics were PROFIEnergy, communication & human machine interfacing in smart buildings and energy monitoring. The demonstrators based on these pilot setups were constructed and research was done on the setups to gain insight in possibilities and limitations of the technologies INCASE organised 34 technical events where in-depth courses and technical lectures were given. 2305 people from 1174 companies attended a lecture. The average participant followed 2,6 lectures or events, meaning 886 unique people were reached. Additionally, INCASE reached more than 700 people on 31 communication events with a general introduction on the project, a general introduction on Industry 4.0 technologies or a company visit. INCASE was also guest at several exhibitions and conferences reaching >10000 people. The project reached more than the preset targets. Policy makers were reached on communication activities, organized by the partnership for a larger public, and on different conferences and meetings. Technology transfer organisations jointly setup stands with the project partners and communicated on the project. The INCASE partners gained a lot of knowledge by cross border cooperation. A cross border setup demonstrated the possibilities of industrial cloud applications and distant (cross border) measurements were possible. Knowledge on PROFIEnergy, EMC and cosimulation was shared among the partners, who spread the knowledge to the local industrial partners.

Delivered Outputs (EN):

INCASE developed knowledge, innovative applications and pilots on key enabling automation technologies for the future I 4. 0. The project delivered 10 thematic demonstration trajectories to demonstrate the new technologies and their feasibility to engineers and technicians in order to create awareness; among those we can mention pilots on key enabling automation technologies (industrial communication and integrated design), pilots to reduce energy consumption in both home automation and industrial automation (communication and Human-Machine Interface technologies for smart factories and smart houses).
