IMPROVE aims to increase the level of innovation in six NPA peripheral regions in the field of technology-driven public service solutions. It adapts a novel living labs-driven approach to maximise knowledge transfers between regions and stakeholders. Real communities will demonstrate the approach by using it to co-produce six services, and develop tools and methodologies for use by other regions to implement the results of the project.

Expected Results (EN): Awareness and attitudes among health professionals towards the use of eHealth technologies

Expected Outputs (EN):

The IMPROVE project will contribute to the programme result “Awareness of technology-driven public service provision in remote and sparsely populated areas”. It has three main results contributing to this programme result as follows: 1.Living Labs: Achieve a step-change improvement in the innovation potential of the IMPROVE poject regions by bringing about the establishment of transboundary living lab. This will encompass six test-bed NPA regions and their innovation stakeholders organised in quadruple helix fashion, dedicated to developing and deploying public services using new organisational models, processes, technologies and tools for their communities “A living lab is a user-centred, open-innovation ecosystem, often operating in a territorial context (e.g. city, agglomeration, region), integrating concurrent research and innovation processes[ within a public-private-people partnership” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_lab 2.Demonstrator Services: Capability of the project regions to develop technology-driven services demonstrated as a result of producing six operational services in the field of healthcare and spatial planning. 3.Centres of Knowledge: Improved capacity of three universities/research Centres in the NPA to provide innovation services, in the field of technology-driven public services development knowledge throughout the programme area. This capacity relates to their teaching capability, knowledge transfer processes, breadth and volume of knowledge in the field, quality of research, linkages with other stakeholders and institutions and spinout capability To help quantify the contribution made to the programme result (a qualitative description was given in C.1.2), the project has developed a simple Regional Awareness Scoreboard (see below) to help rank the current (baseline) and planned (change) awareness or innovation level, related to technology-driven public services, of the different regions. It uses a five-point scale to assign a regional awareness rank that depends on the awareness level within individual stakeholder groups. The awareness characteristics of stakeholders at different positions in the ranking are described in the scoreboard. It can be seen that a judgement has been made as to where each region is positioned within a particular rank, e.g., Derry is currently on the borderline between average and good. It can be seen that all six regions in this project are currently ranked as Average or Good. The aim is to use the project to bring about a change or result where all of the project regions have a Good to High rank. The way in which this effects a positive change on the awareness characteristics of each stakeholder can be read by comparing their baseline and planned positions in the scoreboard.
