The idea is to create preconditions and solid business platform for real activities for SMEs to enter new markets outside Europe through benefitting from cluster-initiative and knowledge transfer in metalworking and mechatronics field. Project partners are business support organisations in mechanical engineering and mechatronics field acting as clusters and having different consortium partners and members (beneficiaries). IMECC is competence centre with consortium of more than 20 partners, MECA is industry association with ca 10 partners, EML is industry association with more than 30 partners, KTK is technology centre, Hermia is a developer and producer of product development and innovation services with hundreds of member organizations. Up to now, the marketing and sales processes have been done by each separate company. Common marketing activities are planned to initiate to benefit from common use of resources and accumulation of knowledge for entering to new markets. Mechanical engineering and mechatronics sectors and IT have chosen as initial interest fields, which will be detailised during the project. Target markets as Georgia, Usbekistan, South-Africa, Brasil and Mexico are chosen on the basis where we already have contacts, which are emerging markets and where market potential is obvious and based on current analysis, where we together as metacluster could be strong. It is planned to make market analysis and research, develop entering strategies for target markets, find contacts and partners in target markets, make investments to equipment needed to adapt the products to the needs of target markets (measuring machine and digitalisation software). Direct beneficiaries are member companies of project partners and other companies of the sector. Seminars to introduce market researches and possibilities in target markets as well as business visits and B2B contacts in target markets are planned, so the number of beneficiaries is over 150 companies.

Achievements (EN):

CLUSME - Cluster-based marketing and export in mechatronics: The main achievement of project CLUSME is broad contact network and strong metacluster between enterprises and organisations from participating countries and target markets. Entreprises involved in project activities have started export activities in 3 new markets: Georgia, Uzbekistan and Republic of South Africa. Thanks to this project preconditions to beneficiaries (SMEs) from mechanical engineering and mechatronics sectors were created. Project CLUSME was initially directed to mechanical engineering and mechatronics sector but during implementation education and sustainable green technologies were also included as potential development sectors in target countries. One of the most important cooperation initiative was developed between educational organisations to support qualified and skilled workers in chosen sectors that would make it possible for our SMEs to operate in these markets. Effective collaboration agreements and contracts were concluded between educational and R&D organisations. Preconditions were created to expand export from highly compressed markets to new, growing and powerful markets. There was a functioning metacluster created based on cooperation of project partners. Also favorable preconditions for business development between beneficiaries and organizations on target market were created. Strong and wide network of partners in target markets was developed to support export activities also in the future. Altogether more than 300 enterprises have received non-financial support by getting information needed to start business in target markets, by developed contact network, by being advised how to adapt their products and services to the target market needs. The main result indicator of the specific objective of the project has been the number of cluster co-operations exporting to new markets. There are 9 enterprises who have started export and 18 enterprises and organizations who had contracted and starting their enlargements to these markets. Due to the process of entering these target markets is long, it is assumed that during following years there will be more enterprises and organisations related this project who will be starting their businesses in these markets.

Project main results:- Created preconditions to expand export from highly compressed markets to new, growing and more powerful markets- Enlargened potential of Central-Baltic Sea region in the field of mechanical engineering and mechatronics sector on the basis of the functions of metacluster by creating preconditions to succeed in new emerging markets and enlargening the possibilities of export and industrial cooperation of SMEs- Through the project preconditions and solid plaform are created to enable SMEs to start and increase sales to target markets outside EUOther results:- Created functioning metacluster based on cooperation of project partners- Created favourable preconditions for business development between organizations belonging to the metacluster, beneficiaries and organizations on target market- Obtained inputs to develop new products and adapt existing products to target market needs- Done market-analyses and researches and market entering strategies for target markets- Organized seminars about target markets to interested SMEs- Created network of partners in target markets, obtained contacts- Organized business visits and business-to-business contacts to SMEs in target markets- Database with target market contacts, memorandums of understanding with most importantProject main results and subresults directly are linked to the programme result indicator.We plan to enter at 5 new markets outside Europe. The will be 5 partners that together make collaboration in entering new markets and form metacluster. In target markets will be developed contacts with local authorities, supporting institutions, associations and companies in chosen subsectors. Through member companies of project partners and other SMEs (beneficiaries) the project results influence export of their beneficiaries and additionally we plan to disseminate the project results to other companies outside members of project partners which will make the number of beneficiaries bigger.
