Het consortium van GIST bestaat uit regionale clusters die cleantech innovaties en toepassingen in industriële omgeving willen verhogen en regio’s helpen ontwikkelen tot marktleiderschap in verschillende specialismen. Tot op heden is men relatief onbekend met mogelijk relevante technologieën, geschikte kennisleveranciers of technische experts. Daarnaast spelen de hoge ontwikkelkosten en het risicoprofiel een grote rol. Dit alles leidt ertoe dat weinig duurzaamheidsinnovaties tot een effectieve investering leiden. Door het wegnemen van risico’s rond investeringsprojecten zullen bedrijven sneller nieuwe technologieën implementeren. Groei is de kern van het project, net zoals GIST ook in de betekenis van het micro-organisme o.a. brood doet rijzen en dus laat ‘groeien’. GIST werkt met twee typen haalbaarheidsstudies die technologieën of processen ontwikkelen met een verlaagd energie- of grondstofverbruik en met een hoog commercieel en opschalingspotentieel. Het eerste type bestaat uit 10 langdurige FEED (Front End Engineering Design) studies in de vorm van business simulaties of de realisatie van een pilot en/of prototype. Daarnaast worden in 15 korte FEED-Light projecten specifieke kennis- of technische vragen opgelost. De doelgroep zijn middelgrote en grote ´asset owners´ in de procesindustrie en technische toeleveranciers zoals KMO/MKB. Door de verschillende netwerken met elkaar te verbinden en het delen van good practices ontstaat er een kwalitatief hoogwaardige pijplijn van concepten.

The consortium of ‘GIST’ consists of regional clusters that want to increase clean tech innovations and applications in industrial environments and help develop regions to market leadership in various specialisms. To date, companies are relatively unfamiliar with potentially relevant technologies, suitable knowledge suppliers or technical experts. In addition, the high development costs and the risk profile play a major role. All this means that few sustainability innovations lead to an effective investment. By removing risks around investment projects, companies will implement new technologies faster. Growth is the core of the project, just as ‘GIST’ (yeast) also raises bread in the meaning of the micro-organism, and thus allows it to 'grow'. ‘GIST’ works with two types of feasibility studies that develop technologies or processes with a reduced energy or raw material consumption and with a high commercial and upscaling potential. The first type consists of 10 long-lasting FEED (Front End Engineering Design) studies in the form of business simulations or the realization of a pilot and/or prototype. In addition, specific knowledge or technical questions will be resolved in 15 short FEED-Light projects. The target group are medium-sized and large 'asset owners' in the process industry and technical suppliers such as small-to-medium size businesses. Through connecting the different networks and the sharing of good practices a qualitatively high-value pipeline of concepts is created.

Het GIST-project (Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland) stimuleert groei in de proces- en maakindustrie en streeft naar succesvolle marktintroductie van technologieën die leiden tot een lager verminderd gebruik van energie of grondstoffen. Het project richt zich dus op bedrijven die innovatieve en vermarktbare producten naar de gebruiker willen brengen. Bij voorkeur hebben de technologieën dan ook een hoog potentieel qua opschaling en vermarkting. Het opschalen en vermarkten van nieuwe producten en technologie brengt hoge ontwikkelkosten mee. GIST haalbaarheidsstudies hebben als doel om de risico’s die hiervan uitgaan in kaart te brengen en te beheersen, zodat bedrijven versneld nieuwe technologieën kunnen implementeren. GIST haalbaarheidsstudies zijn dan ook bedoeld om bedrijven te helpen om de zogeheten valley-of-death te overbruggen en lacunes in het businessplan op te vangen met het oog op het aantrekken van financiering. De doelgroep zijn zowel grote en middelgrote bedrijven (asset owners) in de proces- en maakindustrie, alsook KMO/MKB als technische toeleveranciers. Het consortium van GIST bestaat uit regionale clusters die introductie van cleantech innovaties en toepassingen in industriële omgeving willen versnellen. Het verhogen van de bekendheid met mogelijk relevante technologieën, geschikte kennisleveranciers of technische experts is daarvoor wenselijk. Marktintroductie van cleantech innovaties draagt daarenboven bij tot het ontwikkelen tot marktleiderschap in verschillende regionale specialismen. Door de netwerken van de verschillende regionale clusters met elkaar te verbinden en het onderling delen van good practices ontstaat er een kwalitatief hoogwaardige pijplijn van business opportuniteiten met maximaal benutting van de kansen voor de bedrijven in de grensregio. Na 5 succesvolle oproepen voor haalbaarheidsstudies werd het GIST-project verlengd met en extra jaar en konden de projectpartners een 6de en laatste projectoproep lanceren. In deze oproep gaat het om haalbaarheidsstudies van het type FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) of kleinschalige ('FEED-light') haalbaarheidsstudies van een looptijde van maximaal 6 maanden. In deze haalbaarheidsstudies komen onderwerpen aan bod die zich situeren in verschillende cleantech domeinen, zoals de energietransitie, mobiliteit en circulaire economie. Na de eerste successen bij partners Act&Sorb en PeelPioneers, zet het GIST-project zijn werking in 2021 dan ook onverminderd voort om bijkomend kansen te bieden aan bedrijven in de grensregio.

The project therefore focuses on companies that want to bring innovative and marketable products to the user. It is therefore preferable that the technologies have a high potential in terms of scaling up and marketing. Scaling up and marketing new products and technology entails high development costs. Yeast feasibility studies aim to identify and manage the risks involved, so that companies can accelerate the implementation of new technologies. Yeast feasibility studies are therefore intended to help companies bridge the so-called valley-of-death and address gaps in the business plan with a view to attracting funding. The target group is both large and medium-sized companies (asset owners) in the process and manufacturing industry, as well as SMEs and technical suppliers. The GIST consortium consists of regional clusters that want to accelerate the introduction of cleantech innovations and applications in industrial environments. Raising awareness of potentially relevant technologies, appropriate knowledge suppliers or technical experts is desirable for this purpose. Market introduction of cleantech innovations also contributes to the development of market leadership in various regional specialties. By connecting the networks of the various regional clusters and sharing good practices, a high-quality pipeline of business opportunities will be created, with maximum exploitation of the opportunities for businesses in the border region. After 5 successful calls for feasibility studies, the GIST project was extended by an additional year and the project partners were able to launch a 6th and final call for projects. This call concerns feasibility studies of the type FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) or small-scale (‘FEED-light’) feasibility studies of a duration of up to 6 months. These feasibility studies cover topics that are located in various cleantech domains, such as the energy transition, mobility and circular economy. After the first successes with partners Act & Sorb and PeelPioneers, the GIST project will continue to operate in 2021 to provide additional opportunities for businesses in the border region.
