Virtual Reality (VR) boomt weltweit ($160 Milliarden in 2020). In der Region NWE konzentriert sich dieser Industriezweig auf Großbritannien (Spitzenreiter), Frankreich und Deutschland. Im Gesundheitswesen, speziell in der Rehabilitation, ist VR erst in der Anfangsphase der Entwicklung bahnbrechender Behandlungsparadigmen, die klinische Anwendung ist noch nicht weit verbreitet. Um das wirtschaftliche Potenzial dieses Industriezweiges voll zu nutzen, ermöglicht VR4Rehab die Co-Kreation von VR-basierten Rehabilitationsprogrammen. Durch Identifizierung und Zusammenführen von 1) KMU tätig in VR, 2) Forschungsinstituten und 3) Kliniken, die spezialisiert sind auf therapeutische Interventionen des muskuloskelettalen und Nervensystemen, kann State-of-the-Art-VR-Technologie den Rehabilitationsprozess optimieren und den individuellen Bedürfnissen der Patienten und der Therapeuten angepasst werden. Mit diesem Innovationspotenzial bietet VR4REHAB Zugang zu einer breiten Palette von Marktchancen für KMU in NWE und stärkt damit die Position von NWE auf diesem globalen Markt. Am Ende des Projekts werden kollektive Veranstaltungen (zum Beispiel "Hackathons") 375 KMU aktiviert haben. 150 KMU werden an Co–Kreation beteiligt und 25 KMU in neuen Kooperationen tätig sein. Dieses wird zu 45 neuen Arbeitsplätzen und 5 neuen Pilotprojekten mit VR-Technologie basierter Rehabilitation führen. Diese werden mit strategischen Empfehlungen zur erfolgreicher Implementierung der VR Rehabilitationsprotokolle im klinischen Alltag versehen. Zusätzlich wird ein offenes Netzwerk für die Co-Kreation zwischen KMU, Kliniken und Universitäten, die auf dem Gebiet der VR arbeiten, gegründet sein. Auch hier wird es Empfehlungen zur erfolgreichen Zusammenarbeit in diesem Netzwerk gegeben. Nach 5 Jahren wird das Netzwerk 35 Partner umfassen und ein etablierter Initiator für Innovationen sein. Jährlich werden 5 kollektive Ereignisse unterstützt, die wenigstens 1500 KMU beteiligen und daraus 500 KMU in Co-Kreation bringen. So werden 1200 neue Arbeitsplätze und 27 VR basierte Programme entstehen. Nach 10 Jahren hat sich das Netzwerk so vergrößert, dass auch benachbarte therapeutische Disziplinen beziehungsweise medizinische Bereiche bedient werden. So werden 5275 neue Arbeitsplätze bei 100 neuen VR basierten Rehabilitatiosprogrammen geschaffen. Damit ist NWE ein ernst zu nehmender regionaler Schwerpunkt für VR- Innovation im Gesundheitssystem geworden.

La réalité virtuelle (RV) est un secteur en plein essor (marché mondial prévu à hauteur de 160 Milliard de dollars en 2020). Pour l´Europe du Nord-ouest, le secteur se concentre en GB (leader sur la question), France et Allemagne. Pour le secteur de la santé et en particulier pour la rééducation, la RV en est à ses balbutiements quant à lappropriation du domaine pour l´utiliser sur des traitements innovants, incluant leur adoption généralisée en clinique. Pour realiser ce potentiel économique, VR4Rehab vise à la co-création d’outils de rééducation en RV. En identifiant et rassemblant les 1) PME actives dans ce secteur, 2) instituts de recherche et 3) cliniques spécialisées dans les interventions sur le système musculo-squelettique humain, les dernières innovations en RV rencontrent les besoins des patients et de leur thérapeute, optimisant ainsi les protocoles et accélérant la phase de récupération du patient. En se ficalisant sur ce potentiel dinnovation, VR4Rehab donne accès à de larges opportunités de marché aux PME partenaires en europe du Nord-Ouest, et renforce ainsi la position globale de la région. Les initiatives collectives du projet vont toucher 375 PMEs, en impliquer 150 en co-création parmi lesquelles 25 en nouvelle coopération et créer 45 nouveaux emplois et 5 nouveaux projets pilotes concernant les outils de rééducation basés sur la RV, accompagnés par des recommandations stratégiques pour une intégration réussie dans les protocoles. Une plateforme ouverte pour la co-création entre les PME, les centres de rééducation et les partenaires académiques en RV sera établie, accompagnée par des recommandations et bonnes pratiques sur les approche de co-création. Après 5 ans, la plateforme sera étendue à 35 partenaires, et est reconnue comme un acteur initiateur de collaborations et d´innovation (PME et secteur de la santé), via une production annuelle de : 5 évènements collectifs organisés , touchant 1500 PMEs, impliquant 500 PME dans le processus de co-creation, production de 27 outils basés RV. Aprés 10 ans, le réseau, renforcé, aura élargi son réseau d´activité et créera un nouvel impact dans d’autres secteurs connexes de la santé, créant 5275 nouveau emplois, sur la base d´une centaine de nouveaux outils de rééducations produits, instaurant ainsi l´Europe du Nord-Ouest comme une région importante pour la RV liée à la santé.

Virtual Reality (VR) is booming worldwide ($160 billion in 2020). Within the NWE region, industry is concentrated in UK (frontrunner), France and Germany. In healthcare, specifically rehabilitation, VR is in its early days in terms of breakthrough treatment paradigms and widespread clinical adoption. To exploit the economic potential, VR4REHAB aims at enabling the co-creation of VR-based rehabilitation tools. By identifying and combining (1) SMEs, active in the field of VR, (2) research institutes and (3) clinics that specialize in interventions in the human musculoskeletal system, state-of-the-art VR-technology meets the rehabilitation potential and needs of patients and their therapists, thus optimizing rehabilitation protocols, accelerating recovery. By addressing this innovation potential, VR4REHAB provides access to a wide range of market opportunities for SMEs in the NWE-region and thereby strengthens the NWE’s position in this global market. When the project ends, collective events e.g. hackathons have activated 375 SMEs, involved 150 SMEs in co-creation of which 25 SMEs in new cooperations leading to 45 new jobs and 5 new pilots of VR-technology based rehabilitation tools accompanied by strategic recommendations for successful integration in rehab protocols. Additionally an open network for co-creation between SMEs, clinics and universities in the field of VR has been founded, accompanied by recommendations on successful approaches in co-creation. 5 years later the network has grown to 35 partners and acts as established initiator of innovations, by yearly supporting 5 collective events, activating at least 1500 SMEs, involving 500 SMEs in co-creation leading to 1200 new jobs and 27 VR-based tools. 10 years later, the expanding network has broadened its scope to adjacent therapeutic areas/ medical fields, creating 5275 new jobs due to the acceptance of 100 new VR-based rehabilitation tools, thus establishing NWE as a serious region in VR-innovations for health care.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Apart from limited VR-experiments between SMEs and rehabilitation clinics, structural co-creation in this new field is negligible as is the number of SMEs/jobs in this niche sector. With over 150 revalidation clinics treating millions of patients on a yearly base and about 20 health-related cross-sectoral innovation clusters in NWE plus the emergence of IT in healthcare and the foreseen growth of the market for VR, VR4REHAB addresses an underdeveloped fortunate niche.
