Unser Ziel ist die Wiederverwendung von Sedimenten im Kampf gegen Überschwemmungen und Erosion. Wir bieten Autoritäten, Hafen- und Wasserstraßenbetreibern sowie Erosionsexperten neue Lösungen zur Nutzung von Sedimenten im großen Maßstab in Häfen, auf Wasserstraßen und an den Küsten von NWE. Der Klimawandel und zunehmende Risiken verlangen nach Schutzmaßnahmen, die Unmengen von natürlichen Ressourcen verbrauchen. Gleichzeitig stellen 200 Mio. m3/J(80 Mio t) Sedimente ein Problem für die Nutzung von Häfen und Wasserstraßen in Europa dar. Der zunehmende Druck auf Bevölkerung und Umwelt zeigt den dringenden Bedarf an Lösungen zum Erhalt und zur Entwicklung von Häfen. Derzeit werden mehr als 99% der Sedimente aus dem Meer wieder ins Meer zurückgebracht oder als Abfall behandelt. Nur 1% (0,8 Mio t/J) wird wiederverwertet. SURICATES wird 220 000 t Sedimente als Rohstoff in 4 neuen Lösungen für den Bau von Schutzvorrichtungen verwenden. Die Zahl der Projekte zur Nutzung von Feinsedimenten soll innerhalb von 5 Jahren auf 1,5 Mio. t/J in NWE steigen und sogar auf 2,3 Mio. t/J in der EU in 10 Jahren. Das Beispiel CEAMaS hat das allgemeine Interesse an Strategien zur Wiederverwendung auf nationaler Ebene gezeigt. Unser Beitrag betrifft die Entwicklung des Markts durch Verbesserung lokaler Auswirkungen. Wir nutzen Werkzeuge und Methoden um lokal allgemeine Auswirkungen zu messen (mit Sozial-, Wirtschafts- und Umweltmodellen). Wir testen unter reellen Bedingungen die Innovationen (Langzeitauswirkungen) um Anwendungsanleitungen für die Verstärkung und Erneuerung von Ufern sowie die Strandbildung durch Sedimente zu verfassen. Pilotprojekte mit nachhaltiger Auswirkung in UK und NL werden durchgeführt. Veranstaltungen dienen der Vernetzung von Akteuren. Zusammen mit lokalen und nationalen Autoritäten sowie der EU werden Handlungsanleitungen mit Beispielen aus 3 neuen Projekten in FR, UK, IE erarbeitet und für weitere Umsetzungen nach SURICATES verbreitet.

Le projet vise à accroitre le réemploi de sédiments pour la lutte contre les inondations et l’érosion. Nous apporterons aux autorités, aux gestionnaires de ports ou de voies navigables et aux experts de l’érosion de nouvelles solutions pour l’utilisation à grande échelle des sédiments dans les ports, cours d’eau et côtes de l’ENO. Le changement climatique et l’augmentation des risques appellent des mesures de protection consommant d’énormes quantités de ressources alors que les sédiments dragués pour l’accès aux ports/voies navigables d’Europe représentent 200millions m3/an à gérer (80 Mt). L’augmentation de la pression sociale et environnementale montre le besoin pressant de solutions pour maintenir et développer les activités. Actuellement, plus de 99% des sédiments marins dragués sont remis en mer/gérés comme un déchet, et 1% (0.8 Mt/an) réutilisés. SURICATES utilisera 220000t de sédiments comme matière première dans 4 nouvelles solutions pour construire des systèmes de protection résilients. Nous visons un développement de projets valorisant 1,3Mt/an de sédiments fins dans 5 ans en ENO et 2,3 Mt/an d’ici 10 ans en UE. Après la démonstration par CEAMaS de l’intérêt global/national du réemploi, nous contribuerons à développer le marché par l’optimisation des impacts locaux. Nous mettrons en oeuvre des outils et méthodes pour quantifier localement les impacts globaux par l’utilisation de modélisations sociales, économiques, environnementales et testerons en conditions réelles des innovations en évaluant leurs impacts à long terme. Nous fournirons ainsi des guides d’application pour le renforcement et régénération de berge et l’alimentation de plage par dépôt de sédiments. Des pilotes avec un impact durable en UK et NL seront mis en oeuvre. Des activités de mise en réseau pour dissémination et des guides opérationnels illustrés par 3 nouveaux projets en FR, UK, IE seront développés avec les autorités locales et européennes pour mise en oeuvre après SURICATES.

Description (EN):

The project aim is to increase sediment reuse for erosion and flood protection. We will provide authorities, port and waterway managers and erosion experts with new large scale solutions for sediment reuse in NWE ports, waterways and coastlines. Climate change, erosion and flood risk increase require greater mitigation measures, consuming high volumes of natural resources. However, dredged sediments are a problem for EU ports/waterways providing navigation access with 200 million m3/y (80 million tonnes dry weight) generated. Increased social and environmental pressures show the critical need for new solutions to maintain and develop activity. Currently, more than 99% of EU marine sediment dredged is dumped at sea/managed as waste, with only 1% (800 000 t/year) reused. In SURICATES, 220 000t of sediment will be used in 4 new solutions as raw material to build resilient flood/erosion protection systems. We target an increase in the number of sediment reuse projects in NWE to drive sediment reuse to 1.3 Mt/y after 5 years, and 2.3Mt/y after 10 years in the EU. From the CEAMaS project national/global potential interest in reuse strategies demonstration, we will provide support for erosion/flood risk market development with local impact optimisation of sediment reuse. We will implement tools and methods for global impact quantification at regional scale using social, economic, employment and environmental modelling and we will test eco-innovative techniques in real-life conditions providing long term impact evaluation and guidelines for replication: riverbank strengthening, regeneration of harbour/river banks and beach nourishment. Pilot implementation with long term impacts on territories is planned within the project for UK and NL. Networking activities for dissemination and operational guidance illustrated by 3 new projects for Fr, UK and IE will be developed and shared with local, national and EU authorities for implementation on project completion.

Expected Outputs (EN): 99% of dredged sediment is disposed at sea or to a waste facity. 800 000t/y is reused. This quantity stay constant despite increasing constraints leading to no-dredging strategies rather than to projects with fine sediment.
