Cultural heritage is widely acknowledged as a key factor for sustainable development. Cultural Networks are catalytic in promoting cultural tourism destinations and contribute considerably to the protection of traditional cultural events. Furthermore, they create a state of increasing awareness of visitors and host communities on the advantages of supporting cultural events. Therefore, there is a need to enrich regional policies to further support local authorities to realize the full potential of cultural heritage. CultureLands main objective is to spark a vision, which will inspire local authorities to set tangible goals and proceed to strategic planning of specific actions for achieving these goals, enhancing this way the prospects of sustainable cultural tourism in the CB area. The project contributes to the overall objectives of the Cross Border Cooperation Programme, by improving the effectiveness of local and regional development policies in the area of culture, heritage, tourism and sustainable development. Furthermore, it encourages economic growth, cohesion and increased competitiveness. Cultural planning allows us to identify and leverage the communitys cultural resources and to pave a road for the future. With an integrated vision for arts and culture, the projects Beneficiaries can work collaboratively to establish thriving cultural destinations within the CB area. The vision, guiding principles, goals and recommendations of our project will form a Cultural Cross Border Network in order to reveal a wide array of cultural opportunities for growth and a strong commitment to realize the full potential cultural destinations. A Cultural Cross Border Network will identify and leverage the individual communities cultural resources and integrate culture across all facets of the eligible area. We will a road map of opportunities and ideas regarding cultural growth cultural planning to produce places where people want to live, work and visit. Ultimately, CultureLands will can contribute to economic development, cultural vibrancy, stakeholder engagement and an enhanced sense of a community network. Our Networks innovative actions entail: a) Cultural mapping, a systematic approach to identifying and recoding a communitys tangible and intangible cultural resources. b) Defining cultural resources by embracing a broad definition that includes creative cultural industries, cultural spaces and facilities, natural and cultural heritage, festivals and events, and community cultural organizations. c) Adopting a cultural conscience by establishing processes to integrate culture as a consideration across all aspects of CB planning and decision-making. d) An effort to collaborate with existing, active local networks and work collectively to pose future directions for sustainable growth.

Expected Results (EN):

Despite the numerous and rich natural and cultural resources and the various policies, the cross border area lacks an organized management plan for the development of mild tourist products (such as eco-tourism, religious tourism, etc).Contrary to the status quo CultureLands aims to will help managing authorities to create cultural clusters or other types of " cultural networks" (e.g. "value-chains") which will collaborate with research institutes for organize joint cultural events and joint actions promoting common cultural identity. Various result indicators are met by the aforementioned actions. The main result indicator directly linked to the project is the increase of annual visitors and the increase of the annual tourist overnight stays at accommodation establishments. This is an immediate output of enhancing the areas attractiveness. Additionally, CultureLands helps local stakeholders to: Perform benchmarking studies in order to pinpoint advantages and disadvantages in their overall operational capabilities and identify future opportunities. Supporting the construction of key infrastructure & information and communications technology (ICT) applications, business infrastructure and business services for tourism development. Obtain technologically advanced equipment and services to improve visitor experience. Use technological innovation and knowledge accumulated in order to communicate the various aspects of natural and cultural heritage. Create integrated tourist destinations involving sites from both sides of the border. Plan and develop tourist packages per area as well as for all the sites as an integrated experience. Promote effectively the areas comparative advantages. Achieve entrepreneurial business support by helping new entrepreneurial activity. Attend specific training programmes that will employees and entrepreneurs improve the quality of the services they provide.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Overall, the project is expected to increase the attractiveness of the event network's sites and the number of people visiting the cross border area. Additionally, the promotion of cultural heritage events is expected to raise the level of awareness regarding the issue. Another highly regarded outcome is pointing out the need to improve the quality and variety of the services the local enterprises currently provide. Therefore, promotion of cultural events using modern methods is practically synonymous to enhancing its touristic potential. CultureLands is especially directed on using technologically advanced practices that will help local authorities and stakeholders preserve cultural heritage events and traditions, achieve higher status as a tourist destination and ultimately help put the tourist sector on a sustainable development path. The proposed ICT applications will provide means for a better interpretation of the importance of cultural heritage in general. The project will serve as a good practice in depicting the major advantages of preserving and promoting certain events, through a local network of organizations that act jointly for the development and pilot testing of innovative techniques for preserving and promoting events with cultural heritage character. Added value is also foreseen in aspects such as initiatives leading to cross - border exchange, be it visitor exchange among cultural events, knowledge, human resources and good practices, joint initiatives in future projects and restoration of sites whose immediate or distant future seems nowadays, at least obscure. Furthermore, certain actions within the project, such as the common strategic communication plan, the network focused participation in special events and the best practices and adaptation study are expected to draw substantial attention to issues pertaining to local and regional policies.
