Description (EN):

Danube Energy+ tackles the need for change in regional ecosystems to support Young Innovators in transforming their disruptive ideas into ventures. Project´s general objective is to create an enabling environment, which will support Young innovators to pioneer a change in the energy efficiency area by setting up highly innovative startups in the Danube macro-region. Danube Energy+ ecosystem Package as an innovative learning system for key regional ecosystem actors will be developed by using learning interaction among project partners and inclusive design process involving regional public administrations, universities, SMEs and business supporting actors. It is uniquely composed of two main elements – (1) best practices, models and experience in identification and motivation of individual Young Innovators in regional ecosystems and their connection to ecosystem actors, and (2) developed Danube Energy+ Tool as a pre-acceleration learning scheme for Young Innovators boosting their competences to start successful ventures. The learning system will be piloted in 9 countries involving 90 key regional ecosystem actors and 90 Young innovators enabling improvement of regional ecosystem actors´ knowledge. To ensure regional and transregional level sustainability and transferability, regional Danube Energy+ Hubs will be created in close cooperation of regional public administrations and Regional Alliance members based on regional Action Plans and Transregional Hubs´ Strategy including the transferability plan to other regions. 9 project partners and 7 associated strategic partners as key strategic cooperating bodies with regional public administrations will join Danube Energy+ project to create a unique partnership based around core expertises needed: work with Young innovators in regional ecosystems; pre-acceleration programmes development and running; cooperation with regional stakeholders, Hubs creation and operations and regional policy sustainability and support.

Achievements (EN):

The Danube Energy+ (DE+) project under the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme 2014-2020 started in the fall of 2018 by a consortium of 9 organizations from Slovakia, Slovenia, Czechia, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania under the leadership of the lead partner EIT InnoEnergy Germany. The project’s goal is to create an enabling environment which will support the key target group – the Young Innovators – in pioneering a change in the energy efficiency field by setting up highly innovative start-ups in the Danube macro-region. The consortium as well as its goals reflect the socio-economic challenges of the region, as defined by the Danube Transnational Program’s strategy: “The Region has very wide disparities. It has some of the most successful but also the poorest regions in the EU. In particular, contacts and cooperation are often lacking, both financially and institutionally. Enterprises do not sufficiently exploit the international dimension of marketing, innovation or research. The share of highly educated people in the Danube Region is lower than the EU27 average, again with a pronounced divide. The best often leave.“ DE+ project’s main mission has been therefore to overcome these divides by allowing the 9 partners to co-create and learn from each other, while also transferring know-how from the more developed countries to the less developed ones and through the support to young innovators, carriers of potentially revolutionary ideas, the project aims at fostering economic growth and development in the region. The DE+ Hubs’ strategy is the key future-oriented document, reflecting on the know-how gathered in the years of 2018-2020, where an entrepreneurial education Tool and an Ecosystem support Package were implemented in one round of Pilots in all of the 9 consortium regions. The strategy is also the core document outlining how this know-how and mutual learning can be further built upon, developed and transferred both vertically, within the regions and horizontally, to new ones. It informs and guides the consortium regions in developing their custom-made Action Plans with concrete steps leading to the establishment of the Hubs - a physical or virtual entity with the mission to carry on the mission of the Danube Energy+ project to educate, support and connect young innovators in the energy efficiency field, ultimately ensuring sustainability of the projects’ outputs.

Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to increase competences for business and social innovation (survey based composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

Danube Energy+ will result in establishment of enabling environment for Young innovators to further strengthen innovation ecosystem and entrepreneurial spirit, especially in area of energy efficiency. This enabling environment will be built on three key elements achieved by project, each relevant to one specific objective: to advance knowledge of key regional stakeholders in boosting Young innovators (SO1), to boost Young innovators towards successful ventures (SO2) and to set-up tsustainable structures in regional ecosystems to create long-term enabling environment(SO3). Project will intensify cooperation of stakeholders through their engagement in the Danube Energy+ecosystem Package by joint design, pilot monitoring and evaluation and by the development of Action plans. It will engage 9 regional public administrations, 90 Young innovators who were selected for Danube Energy+ Tool Pilot, 9 Regional Alliances, 9 Regional Hubs &2 working groups (responsible for content of the learning scheme). Young innovators will benefit from strengthened competences gained through pre-acceleration learning scheme, which will further develop their general business knowledge (business development, marketing, sales, finance) & specific industry knowledge in area of energy efficiency. Through improved enabling environment, participating territories will benefit from strengthened entrepreneurial spirit resulting in new business ventures oriented on the sustainable energy in long-term period.
