Description (EN):

Danube countries are increasingly dependent on the import of primary energy sources - mainly gas and oil. Only a few countries of the Danube region have an important share of their energy generation from the use of renewable sources. In most of the regions shallow geothermal is exploited not nearly in its full potential. On the other hand, these regions usually have a lot of potential and possibilities in using the shallow geothermal energy for different purposes such as electricity production, district heating and especially in rural areas for agricultural purposes. Furthermore, local municipalities which have developed their energy action plans (EAP) usually overlook the benefits their region could have from geothermal energy exploitation (both deep and shallow) and do not include it the EAPs. The main objective of this project is to analyze the shallow geothermal potential for heating in the partner rural and semirural regions, raise awareness of the local government in potentials and possibilities of using shallow geothermal energy in their regions as well as to include scientific institutions and companies providing innovations in the field of shallow geothermal energy in the development of innovative geothermal solutions. Different levels of shallow geothermal energy exploitations and use in different regions will ensure that the regions with the same potential will learn and transfer this knowledge between themselves. Through better planning of exploitation of geothermal energy PP regions will bring themselves closer to satisfying EU requirements in enhancement of the energy production from RES and lowering of the emission of greenhouse gases. The project will contribute to the The Danube Region Strategy in Priority Area 2 Sustainable energy, point 2 More efficient use of RES - contributing to the goals of the Energy Union, diversification of supply, reducing gas dependency and increasing the availability of renewable resources for domestic use.
