Description (EN):

EcoVeloTour facilitates the development of sustainable tourism in the Danube region along EuroVelo routes via enhanced, conscious and ecologically sound framework of tourism destination management and extending cyclist tourism, unfolding neighbouring regions beyond the EuroVelo route. The regions will capitalize on cultural and natural heritage, through the integration of the ecosystem service framework into ecotourism planning, that enable the attentive maintenance of high ecosystem provisions that contribute to the well-being of the region including ecotourism stakeholders in the long run. The framework will be strongly support by sustainable mobility guidelines, that is key element in comprehensive ecotourism planning, esp. in the case of cyclist ecotourism. Moreover, a comprehensive market research will help Danube region wide to assess better the potentials and ways forward in the ecotourism development. Regional ecotourism strategies will be elaborated based on the developed framework and good practices, studies on ecotourism, green mobility, knowledge exchange, potential ecosystem service mapping of pilot areas, intensive key actors’ cooperation, stakeholder analysis and participation, learning interactions (including e-learning) at regional and transnational level. The implementation of the strategies starts during the project lifetime including small-scale investments too. The bottom-up approach, collected experience from local level will result in a policy recommendation to ensure the capitalization of project results at policy-maker level. Outputs will be: (i) transnational tools for ecotourism development and management: enhanced framework for ecotourism development and mobility planning guidelines, transnational market research, policy recommendation, ecotourism mobile app., e-learning platform; (ii) pilot regional ecotourism strategies; (iii) transnational learning interactions.

Achievements (EN):

Guidelines for Ecosystem Services Based Ecotourism Strategy: In the last periods the preliminary version of the „Guidelines for Ecosystem Services Based Ecotourism Strategy” published in 2019 by the Corvinus University of Budapest, was used as the basis for the development of eco-tourism strategies in the EcoVeloTour partner regions. The experience gained from the feedback-rounds and from the use of the guidelines was collected by Corvinus University of Budapest and incorporated into a revised version. The objective of the document is to help tourism professionals develop effective and sustainable ecotourism/cycling tourism strategies. The final version of the “Guidelines for Ecosystem Services Based Ecotourism Strategy” can be free downloaded from the link below. A leaflet was also made in order to summarize the highlights in an edible way. Also the documents „Policy recommendations on cycling tourism for the countries of the Danube region” and „Policy recommendations on ecotourism for the countries of the Danube region” have been completed by the experts of Corvinus University of Budapest in order to help develop strategies in areas where eco-and cycling tourism infrastructure and superstructure need to be improve. During the research work on cycling and ecotourism policy recommendations, policy documents at the national level were analyzed and a total of 14 in-depth expert interviews were conducted with the involvement of international project partners.

Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to strengthen sustainable use of natural and cultural heritage and resources (survey based composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project will increase the capacity of key regional tourism stakeholders responsible for tourism development in the Danube region at various levels of tourism management. A set of documented learning interactions (PO7) will facilitate the capacity building and strengthen the level of the cooperation among tourism actors at local, micro- and macro regional level, and transnational level. Knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer learning events, trainings are planned at various locations. Project partners, ASPs, invited prominent members of the target group will participate the events. At least 5 internal and external trainings (learning interactions) are foreseen focusing at the strategic level of the tourism actors. Beyond the impact of peer-to-peer learning interactions, an e-learning tool (1) will facilitate the capacity building process at wider transnational level incorporating major project outputs and experience. At least 15 stakeholder involvement activities will ensure the permanent stakeholder involvement mobilizing all relevant actors at domestic level. The partners will carry out at least 7 transnational events focusing on the project target groups and numerous awareness raising at the regional, national level. The professional target audience, key stakeholders will be reached through the kick-off conference and the final conference this way. The variety of format and the number of learning interactions will contribute to the reach of the overall project objective.
