Les problèmes auxquels les agriculteurs de part et d’autre de la frontière franco-belge sont confrontés sont d’autant plus préoccupants que les exigences réglementaires, commerciales, environnementales et sociétales sont de plus en plus strictes en termes de protections des cultures. Pour pérenniser leur activité et s’intégrer dans l’agriculture de demain, les producteurs de légumes frais ou d’industrie sont ainsi confrontés à un besoin constant d’évolution et d’adaptation technique. Le projet ECOPAD ambitionne alors de développer une approche agroécologique transfrontalière grâce à plusieurs modules qui incluront la gestion du projet et des activités de communication, ainsi que la protection intégrée des cultures en trois phases : prévention, observation et action. Le projet permettra l’acquisition de nouvelles références par la conduite de recherches et portera une attention particulière à la diffusion des informations aux producteurs. Pour cette raison, le transfert de références acquises au public-cible sera effectué via plusieurs moyens de communication (visites, publications, newsletters, séminaire).

The problems faced by farmers on both sides of the Franco-Belgian border are all the more worrying because the regulatory, commercial, environmental and societal demands are increasingly stringent in terms of crop protection. To sustain their activity and carve out a place for themselves in the agriculture of tomorrow, producers of fresh or industrial vegetables are thus faced with a constant need for evolution and technical adaptation. The ECOPAD project aims to develop a cross-border agro-ecological approach through several modules that will include project management and communication activities, as well as integrated crop protection in three phases: prevention, observation and action. The project will enable the acquisition of new references by conducting research, and will pay particular attention to the dissemination of information to the producers. That is why the transfer of the acquired references to the target audience will take place via several means of communication (visits, publications, newsletters, seminars).

De problemen voor de boeren aan beide zijden van de Frans-Belgische grens zijn des te zorgwekkender omdat de regelgevende, commerciële, milieu- en maatschappelijke eisen met betrekking tot gewasbescherming steeds strenger worden. Om het voortbestaan van hun activiteit en hun plaats in de landbouw van morgen veilig te stellen, moeten de producenten van verse of industriële groenten dus constant evolueren en technische aanpassingen doorvoeren. Het project ECOPAD beoogt de ontwikkeling van een grensoverschrijdende, agro-ecologische aanpak in meerdere modules, waaronder projectbeheer en communicatieactiviteiten, evenals geïntegreerde gewasbescherming in drie fasen: preventie, waarneming en actie. Het project zal de verwerving van nieuwe referenties mogelijk maken door onderzoek te voeren en een bijzondere aandacht besteden aan de verspreiding van informatie onder de producenten. Daarom zal de overdracht van de verworven referenties naar het doelpubliek via diverse communicatiekanalen verlopen (bezoeken, publicaties, nieuwsbrieven, seminaries).

Achievements (FR):

De plus en plus, le consommateur, le citoyen et le politique sont demandeurs d’une moindre utilisation des « pesticides », en particulier sur des produits comme les fruits et légumes, symboles de santé et de fraîcheur. En parallèle, les distributeurs demandent une qualité irréprochable. Combiner ces deux exigences n’est pas évident. Les organismes de recherche et de développement doivent donc se mobiliser pour renforcer les travaux d’expérimentation et répondre aux besoins techniques des producteurs. L’approche agro-écologique du projet ECOPAD, voie vers l’agro-écologie, est développée en cinq modules. Les deux premiers modules sont nécessaires au bon déroulement du programme : il s’agit de la gestion du projet et des activités de communication. Dans chacun des autres modules les trois principes majeurs de la protection intégrée (PI) des cultures est étudiés. Ces 3 principes sont la prévention, l’observation et la lutte. Les partenaires des deux côtés de la frontière font les travaux ensemble avec des protocoles communs. Les échanges ont permis de confirmer les objectifs et priorités d’études, de partager des publications sur la plateforme de collaboration Dropbox, de sélectionner les modalités à tester, d’acquérir des méthodologies expérimentales au profit du groupe. Les partenaires ont organisé une conférence de presse le 22 juin 2017 pour présenter les travaux transfrontaliers à la presse et au grand public. Jusqu’à présent, le partenariat a déjà diffusé 6 Newsletters ECOPAD. Dans la deuxième Newsletter ECOPAD ils ont présenté les premiers résultats des études de la première saison. Les recherches concernant les thématiques d’intercropping, drosophila en fraise et Alternaria en carotte se montraient, en particulier, très prometteurs. Dans la troisième Newsletter ECOPAD ils ont présenté les résultats concernant les thématiques de drosophila en fraise, biodiversité et mouche mineuse du poireau. Sur la base de ces résultats, les partenaires ont complété et amélioré les protocoles des études pour la prochain saison du projet. Dans le quatrième Newsletter ECOPAD, les résultats de la recherche sur la lutte contre les chenilles dans les choux et la sensibilité variétale de la grosse carotte aux maladies foliaires pendant la saison 2018 ont été présentés. Un résumé a également été publié sur la démonstration de la récolte de tiges de choux de Bruxelles. Dans le cinquième Newsletter ECOPAD les résultats ont été présentées de la recherche d’intercropping, la drosophile dans la fraise et le Phytophthora sur l’endive. Dans le sixième Newsletter ECOPAD les résultats ont été présentées de la recherche d’intercropping, les maladies foliaires de la grosse carotte et de la recherche sur la lutte contre les chenilles sur choux. Au cours des semestres précédentes déjà 4 visites d’études ont été organisées : une visite guidée sur la culture d’intercropping oignon/carotte, une visite de l’essai ‘sensibilité variétale sur carottes’, une démonstration de la récolte de tiges de choux de Bruxelles dans le cadre de la thématique ‘gestion des déchets’ et une visite d’essais poireau où entre autres les résultats en cadre du projet ecopad ont été présentés. PCG a élaboré un site portail spécifique au projet ECOPAD : www.ecopad.be. Sur le site web, le contenu du projet ECOPAD est présenté ainsi que les différents partenaires et leurs coordonnées. Chaque semestre, les nouvelles publications du projet et les Newsletters seront mises en ligne sur le site pour que tous les producteurs puissent avoir accès à l’information. De plus, les producteurs peuvent contacter un des partenaires du projet pour par exemple, recevoir s’ils le souhaitent des ’informations complémentaires sur les études menées.

Achievements (EN):

Increasingly, consumers, citizens and politicians are asking for less use of “pesticides”, especially on products such as fruits and vegetables, symbols of health and freshness. At the same time, distributors demand impeccable quality. Combining these two requirements is not obvious. Research and development organisations must therefore mobilise to strengthen experimental work and meet the technical needs of producers. The agro-ecological approach of the ECOPAD project, a path to agroecology, is developed in five modules. The first two modules are necessary for the smooth running of the programme: this is project management and communication activities. In each of the other modules, the three major principles of integrated crop protection (IP) are studied. These 3 principles are prevention, observation and control. Partners on both sides of the border are working together with common protocols. The exchanges confirmed the objectives and priorities of the studies, shared publications on the Dropbox collaboration platform, selected the modalities to be tested, and acquired experimental methodologies for the benefit of the group. The partners organised a press conference on 22 June 2017 to present the cross-border work to the press and the general public. So far, the partnership has already distributed 6 ECOPAD Newsletters. In the second ECOPAD Newsletter they presented the first results of the studies of the first season. Research on the themes of Intercropping, strawberry drosophila and carrot Alternaria were particularly promising. In the third ECOPAD Newsletter they presented the results concerning the themes of strawberry drosophila, biodiversity and leek mined fly. Based on these results, the partners completed and improved the study protocols for the next project season. In the fourth ECOPAD Newsletter, the results of research on the control of caterpillars in cabbage and the varietal sensitivity of large carrots to leaf diseases during the 2018 season were presented. A summary was also published on the demonstration of the harvest of Brussels sprouts. In the fifth ECOPAD Newsletter the results were presented from the research of Intercropping, drosophila in strawberry and Phytophthora on endive. In the sixth ECOPAD Newsletter the results were presented from the research of Intercropping, leaf diseases of the big carrot and research on the control of caterpillars on cabbage. In the previous semesters already 4 study visits were organised: a guided tour on the cultivation of Intercropping onion/carrot, a visit to the test ‘varietal sensitivity on carrots’, a demonstration of the harvest of Brussels sprouts under the theme ‘waste management’ and a leek test visit where, among other things, the results of the ECOPAD project were presented. PCG has developed a portal site specific to the ECOPAD project: www.ecopad.be On the website, the content of the ECOPAD project is presented as well as the various partners and their contact details. Each semester, new project publications and newsletters will be posted on the website so that all producers can access the information.
