Description (EN):

This project aims to simplify and accelerate the transport by vehicle and bicycle which will be achieved by building bicycle paths in Subotica (Serbia) in settlements Bački Vinogradi and Kelebija, in Tompa (Hungary) and in Ásotthalom (Hungary), plann ing bicycle paths in Subotica and Tompa, and by defining the model of regulating traffic management for removing bottlenecks at border crossings. The main objective will be achieved by constructing of the bicycle paths from both sides, Hungarian and Serbian. The project intends to optimize traffic in the border zone, the planning and construction of bicycle paths will give an opportunity to those who use bicycles as means of transport as well as recreational activity, to approach and quickly cr oss the border from both sides. Also the development of the new bicycle paths will ensure safe biking across the border and the environmental protection (reduce the CO2 emission). The specific objective will be achieved through a study which will de fine the model and measures for the management and regulation of traffic on the roads in the zone of border crossings. For a long time, during the holidays and periods of vacations at some border crossings there were rows of vehicles of several kilom eters long. During such periods, the average waiting time at the border crossing was to several hours, and the conditions of the traffic at the border crossings have traffic characteristics at bottlenecks. Such situations create traffic inconvenience to tourists and the local population, prolong the journey, causing additional travel costs, impact on environmental pollution and road safety. By reducing the waiting time using the model that will be the result of the study, it will achieve a direc t benefit to the border regions, local residents, tourists and businesses on both sides of the border.
