Description (EN):

The project aims at improving the flood prevention and flood protection capacity of Baja and Novi Becej and their surrounding areas through crucial infrastructural developments, technology based disaster prevention tools, planning activities and trai ning and awareness raising activities. Due to their geographic location flood protection is of high importance both for the Municipality of Baja and the Municipality of Novi Bečej. Both municipalities are responsible for protecting defined sections a long their rivers and they would like to increase the efficiency of flood protection. Addressed issues are 1) physical infrastructure in poor condition; 2) low technology flood prevention; 3) lack of trainings and low level of awareness. The project is composed of structural and non-structural activities that are grouped in 4 outcomes that build on each other strongly. The project’s 4 main building blocks are: Outcome 1: Improved physical infrastructure and technical equipment. Outcome 2: Newly introduced and implemented smart solutions. Activities belonging here will result in a functioning, integrated decision support and flood forecast system for Baja and Novi Becej. Outcome 3: Construction and technical plans for improved flood protecti on at both partners. Outcome 4: Trained civil protection commissioners and improved awareness of affected inhabitants through training and communication activities. Activities will be supported by sound project management at each partner. The primary target group is those inhabitants, businesses and other organisations in Baja and in Novi Becej that are directly affected by the planned project activities. Second, the project targets local inhabitants, and third, civil protection commissioners in both settlements. The project’s main result is increased capacities for flood prevention and protection and enhanced awareness of target groups in Baja and Novi Becej. Project will start in 10/2017 and will last for 24 months.

Expected Outputs (EN):

4, 4. Trained civil protection commissioners and improved awareness of affected inhabitants through training and communication activities. The activity gathers non-structural type of activities with a strong focus on training, awareness raising, dissemination and communication. 3, 3.Construction and technical plans for improved flood protection at partners. The outcome gathers crucial planning activities at municipalities. In Baja it includes delivering the complex construction plan for Petőfi Sziget flood protection, whereas in Novi Becej the construction of a second sluice. 2, 2. Newly introduced and implemented smart solutions for improved flood protection in Baja and Novi Becej. The outcome gathers activities focusing on the launch of technology based disaster prevention tools served by a single IT system. 1, 1. Improved physical infrastructure and technical equipment for flood prevention and protection in Baja and Novi Becej. The outcome gathers the activities with structural measures including a new sluice and monitoring wells in Baja, a backhoe loader and remediated embankment in Novi Becej. 0, Project management activities.
