Description (EN):

The Pyrenees are increasingly affected by climate change. In this context, human societies across the borders must keep track of and adapt to the changes. ECTOPYR offers a novel and ambitious strategy in this regard; that is to use a panel of 8 ectotherm organisms as bio-indicators of climate change, occurring from low-land streams to high-altitude rock-fields. ECTOPYR will generate range maps for each model organism in order to rapidly (1) assess each bio-indicator’s response to climate change, (2) describe the natural variability of the Pyrenees’ climate over vast time scales and (3) generate modelling tools in order to anticipate the effects of climate change on each model organisms. These advances will serve decision making towards a sustainable future across the various mountainous environments, as well as thoroughly understand ecosystem functioning in the Pyrenees. These achievements will benefit environment managers, entrepreneurs, the scientific community as well as the general public. ECTOPYR will be a stepping stone towards a sustainable future in the Pyrenees, and will make people, managers and communities feel and work closer together.

La aceleracion actual del cambio climatico afecta de forma especialmente significativa a la Cordillera Pirenaica, proceso al que los territorios fronterizos deben adaptarse imperativamente. ECTOPYR propone mediante un enfoque original y ambicioso aprovechar la distribucion transfronteriza de ocho ectotermos pirenaicos para utilizarlos como bioindicadores de los efectos del cambio climatico, desde el rio de llanura a los despeñaderos de altitud. ECTOPYR creara mapas de distribucion con datos climaticos, topograficos y biologicos para (1) evaluar rapidamente la respuesta de los bioindicadores de entornos respecto al cambio climatico, (2) describir la variabilidad natural del clima a largo plazo a escala de los territorios pirenaicos y (3) crear herramientas de prediccion, a partir de modelos, de los efectos de los cambios climaticos sobre los bioindicadores. Estos avances proporcionaran una herramienta de inteligencia empresarial, por tanto, una ayuda para el desarrollo sostenible de la montaña, asi como un profundo conocimiento de los ecosistemas pirenaicos. ECTOPYR beneficiara a los agentes intermedios, responsables locales, comunidades cientificas y publico transfronterizo en su conjunto. ECTOPYR sera un paso para la llegada del desarrollo territorial sostenible en la Cordillera Pirenaica, favoreciendo al mismo tiempo la percepcion de la zona transfronteriza por los ciudadanos y agentes intermedios como un espacio unico con efecto frontera reducido.

L’acceleration actuelle du changement climatique affecte de façon particulierement marquee la chaîne Pyreneenne, processus auquel les territoires frontaliers doivent imperativement s’adapter. ECTOPYR propose, par une approche originale et ambitieuse, de tirer profit de la repartition transfrontaliere de huit ectothermes pyreneens pour les utiliser comme bio-indicateur des effets du changement climatique, de la riviere de plaine aux pierriers d’altitude. ECTOPYR generera des cartes de repartitions, nourries de donnees climatiques, topographiques et biologiques afin de rapidement (1) evaluer la reponse des bio-indicateurs de milieux vis-a-vis du changement climatique, (2) decrire la variabilite naturelle du climat sur le temps long a l'echelle des territoires pyreneens et (3) generer des outils predictifs, a partir de la modelisation, des effets des changements climatiques sur les bio-indicateurs. Ces avancees fourniront un outil decisionnel, donc une aide au developpement durable de la montagne, ainsi qu’une connaissance approfondie des ecosystemes pyreneens. ECTOPYR beneficiera aux acteurs intermediaires, decisionnaires locaux, communautes scientifiques et public transfrontalier dans son ensemble. ECTOPYR se veut être une etape a l’avenement du developpement territorial durable dans la Chaîne des Pyrenees, tout en favorisant la perception de la zone transfrontaliere par les citoyens et acteurs intermediaires comme un espace unique a l’effet frontiere diminue.
