El incremento del número y tipos de resistencias a antibióticos (AMR) es uno de los mayores retos de Salud Pública a nivel mundial. Los antibióticos suponen un problema medioambiental como vía de exposición indirecta e incontrolada. Las explotaciones ganaderas, el motor económico rural del territorio POCTEFA, son los mayores emisores de antibióticos al medio ambiente y los mayores responsables de las exposiciones, por su presencia en carnes, purines y por su emisión directa a las aguas. Para recuperar la calidad de las aguas y los ecosistemas del territorio POCTEFA, se necesita un acercamiento colaborativo y multidisciplinar que garantice y mejore la Salud ambiental, animal y humana. El objetivo general de OUTBIOTICS es eliminar o reducir considerablemente los antibióticos en aguas del territorio POCTEFA mediante el desarrollo de tecnologías innovadoras basadas en nano-micro materiales inertes para la prevención de la emisión y corrección en las aguas. Así mismo se pretende concienciar de la importancia de las AMR, diagnosticar el estado de las aguas del territorio, aplicar nuevas herramientas de sustitución de antibióticos (en producción animal) y de remediación de las aguas y finalmente proponer planes de viabilidad, transferibilidad y gestión integral del territorio para estos contaminantes emergentes.

Description (EN):

The increase in the number and types of antibiotic resistance (AMR) is one of the greatest public health challenges worldwide. Antibiotics pose an environmental problem for being indirect and uncontrolled routes of exposure. Livestock farms, the rural economic engine of the POCTEFA territory, are the largest emitters of antibiotics to the environment and the main responsible for the indirect exposures, due to their presence in meats, slurry and their direct emission to fresh waters. To recover the quality of the waters and ecosystems of the POCTEFA territory, a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach is needed to guarantee and improve environmental, animal and human health. The general objective of OUTBIOTICS is to eliminate or significantly reduce antibiotics in waters of the POCTEFA territory by developing innovative technologies based on nano-micro inert materials for the prevention of antibiotics emissions and water decontamination. It is also intended to raise awareness of the importance of AMR, to diagnose the state of the waters of the territory, to apply new tools for replacing antibiotics (in animal production) and for water remediation, and finally to propose feasibility, transferability and integral management plans for the territory for these emerging pollutants.

L’augmentation du nombre et des types de résistances aux antibiotiques (AMR) est un des défis majeurs de la santé publique au niveau mondial. Les antibiotiques représentent un problème environnemental comme voie d’exposition indirecte et non contrôlée. Les fermes d’élevages, le moteur économique rural du territoire POCTEFA, sont les plus grands émetteurs d’antibiotiques dans l’environnement et les plus grands responsables des expositions, par leur présence dans les viandes et les purins et par leur émission directe sur les eaux. Pour restaurer la qualité des eaux et des écosystèmes du territoire POCTEFA, une approche collaborative et multidisciplinaire semble nécessaire pour assurer et améliorer la santé environnementale, animale et humaine. L’objectif général du projet OUTBIOTICS est d’éliminer ou de réduire considérablement les antibiotiques dans les eaux du territoire POCTEFA, grâce au développement de technologies novatrices basées sur les nano-micro matériaux inertes pour la prévention de l’émission et le traitement dans les eaux. Il vise également à faire prendre conscience de l’importance des AMR, à diagnostiquer l’état des eaux du territoire, à appliquer les nouveaux outils de substitution des antibiotiques (en élevage) et de remédiation des eaux et finalement, à proposer des plans de viabilité, de transférabilité et de gestion intégrée du territoire pour ces polluants émergents.

Achievements (ES):

Durante los 4 años de desarrollo del proyecto OUTBIOTICS, los continuos avances que se han ido obteniendo en el tiempo se han divulgado en la sociedad de forma muy exhaustiva y en numerosos medios de comunicación. Además de su profunda repercusión científica, avalada por sus resultados y conclusiones y en la amplia producción científica generada. Los temas que ha abordado el proyecto son de enorme interés para la sociedad y para los gestores de las diferentes administraciones públicas. Tanto en relación al diagnóstico de la situación de salud medioambiental (en cuanto a la presencia de antibióticos como contaminantes emergentes) de los ríos en el territorio POCTEFA estudiado (Navarra, Aragón, Cataluña, Pyrénées Atlantiques, Hautes Pyrénées), como en la propuesta de utilización de nuevos compuestos basados en nanomateriales para reducir su consumo en explotaciones ganaderas y, por lo tanto, reducir su presencia y acción contaminanante.

Achievements (EN):

During the 4 years of development of the OUTBIOTICS project, the continuous advances that have been obtained over time have been disseminated in society in a very exhaustive way and in numerous media. In addition to its profound scientific impact, supported by its results and conclusions and in the extensive scientific production generated. The topics addressed by the project are of enormous interest to society and to the managers of the different public administrations. Both in relation to the diagnosis of the environmental health situation (in terms of the presence of antibiotics as emerging pollutants) of the rivers in the POCTEFA territory studied (Navarra, Aragon, Catalonia, Pyrénées Atlantiques, Hautes Pyrénées), and in the proposal to use new compounds based on nanomaterials to reduce their consumption in livestock farms and, therefore, reduce their presence and contaminant action.
