The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of underground and surface water bodies in border areas after extraction of raw materials. To this end, various studies and other measures will be carried out in former mining areas, which will focus on subsequent management after mining and, in the case of new mining activities, on resource-friendly principles.

Das Hauptziel des Projektes ist die Verbesserung des Zustandes von Grund und Oberflächenwasserkörpern in den grenzennahen Bergbaufolgegebieten. Zu diesem Zweck werden Studien und weitere Vorhaben in den Bergbaufolgegebieten durchgeführt, die sich dem Bergbaufolgemenagement sowie den ressourcenschonenden Prinzipien des aktiven Bergbaus widmen.

Hlavním cílem projektu je zlepšení kvality podzemních a povrchových vodních útvarů v příhraničních oblastech po těžbě surovin. Za tímto účelem budou v bývalých těžebních oblastech provedeny různé studie a další opatření, která se zaměří na následný management po těžbě a v případě nově těžební činnosti na principy tžby šetrné ke zdrojům.

Achievements (EN):

After four years, the EU project “Vita-Min — Living with Mining” has been successfully completed. This was announced by the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) today in Dresden. The focus of the German-Czech project was to identify water pollution in mining regions and to develop solution strategies for the protection of nature and the environment. For example, for the cross-border mining area Zinnwald/Cínovec, a “water pedigree” has been developed, which makes it possible to trace closely in the widely branched underground mine water system from which stolls and mouthholes which pollutants are entered into the Saxon waters. In addition, the natural heavy metal content of rocks found in the German and Czech parts of the Ore Mountains was investigated. From the results it can be derived how the streams in the region are shaped by the natural occurrence of heavy metals. These ‘genic background values’ are taken into account in the assessment of water status under the Water Framework Directive. Within the framework of “Vita-Min”, further tools have been developed that can be used in future for the planning of measures to reduce heavy metal inputs from old mining into the water, including a cross-border, digital heap cadastral register as well as the online research tool “BEAST”, which provides decision-making aid for water purification and remediation procedures. The focus of the project was on regions characterised by the consequences of active mining, remediation and old mining. In Saxony, the focus was on the Zinnwald district, the hard coal area Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge, the Freiberger Revier and the lignite open-air mining region Lausitz. The “Vita-Min” project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with around 3.5 million euros. It included a total of 32 subprojects. The LfULG led the project as lead partner. Project partners were the town of Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge and the regional authority Ústecký kraj in the Czech Republic.

Nach vier Jahren Laufzeit ist das EU-Projekt »Vita-Min – Leben mit dem Bergbau« erfolgreich abgeschlossen worden. Das teilte das Sächsische Landesamt für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft und Geologie (LfULG) heute in Dresden mit. Schwerpunkt des deutsch-tschechischen Projektes war es, Gewässerbelastungen in Bergbauregionen zu identifizieren und Lösungsstrategien zum Schutz von Natur und Umwelt zu entwickeln. So wurde beispielsweise für das grenzüberschreitende Bergbaurevier Zinnwald/Cínovec ein »Wasserstammbaum« entwickelt, der es ermöglicht, im weit verzweigten unterirdischen Grubenwassersystem genau zurückzuverfolgen, aus welchen Stolln und Mundlöchern welche Schadstoffe in die sächsischen Gewässer eingetragen werden. Darüber hinaus wurde der natürliche Schwermetallgehalt der im deutschen und tschechischen Teil des Erzgebirges vorkommenden Gesteine untersucht. Aus den Ergebnissen kann abgeleitet werden, wie die Bäche in der Region durch das natürliche Vorkommen der Schwermetalle geprägt werden. Diese »geogenen Hintergrundwerte« werden bei der Bewertung des Gewässerzustands nach der Wasserrahmenrichtlinie berücksichtigt. Im Rahmen von »Vita-Min« wurden weitere Werkzeuge entwickelt, die zukünftig bei der Planung von Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung von Schwermetalleinträgen aus dem Altbergbau in die Gewässer herangezogen werden können. Dazu gehören ein grenzübergreifendes, digitales Haldenkataster sowie das Online-Recherchetool »BEAST«, das eine Entscheidungshilfe für Gewässerreinigungs- und Sanierungsverfahren bietet. Im Fokus des Projektes standen Regionen, die von den Folgen des aktiven Bergbaus beziehungsweise des Sanierungs- und Altbergbaus geprägt sind. In Sachsen lag der Schwerpunkt auf dem Revier Zinnwald, dem Steinkohlengebiet Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge, dem Freiberger Revier sowie der Braunkohlentagebauregion Lausitz. Das Projekt »Vita-Min« wurde vom Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) mit rund 3,5 Millionen Euro gefördert. Es umfasste insgesamt 32 Teilprojekte. Das LfULG führte als Leadpartner durch das Projekt. Projektpartner waren die Stadt Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge und die Regionalbehörde Ústecký kraj in der Tschechischen Republik.
