EcoSUSTAIN est une action transnationale vers la maintenance de biodiversité et écosystèmes naturels au moyen de gestion plus solide et réseautage de régions protégées par consolidation des capacités, technologies innovantes et une base de connaissance améliorée. La gestion et le réseautage seront améliorés par consolidation des capacités et une exécution d’essai des solutions innovantes pour surveiller la qualité d’eau dans plusieurs zones humides à travers la région du programme. La surveillance de la qualité d’eau sera améliorée au moyen des TIC de pointe fournissant des messages live de la première alerte à partir d’une bouée équipée d’un capteur ou par surveillance à long terme basée en imagerie par satellite. Les utilisateurs primaires des systèmes de surveillance seront les autorités de gestion des régions protégées impliquées dans les activités d’essai. Cependant, grâce au transfert des activités du projet et les résultats soutenables, les utilisateurs secondaires seront les autres autorités de gestion des zones protégées à travers la Méditerranée. Le but de l’action est l’amélioration de la surveillance, gestion et réseautage des régions protégées en soutenant des connaissances scientifiques, techniques et managériaux pour s’attaquer au problème d’un gestion incohérente et séparée des régions protégées comme unités indépendantes, ce qui freine la protection et la promotion des ressources naturels méditerranées ainsi que la biodiversité et des écosystèmes naturels.

Description (EN):

EcoSUSTAIN represents joint transnational action towards maintenance of biodiversity and natural ecosystems by means of stronger management and networking of protected areas obtained through capacity building, innovative technologies and improved management knowledge base. Management and networking of protected areas will be improved by capacity building activities and pilot implementation of innovative water quality monitoring solutions in several protected wetland locations across the programme area. Water quality monitoring will be improved by means of state-of-the-art ICT technology providing live, early warning messages directly from a sensor-equipped buoy, or by means of long-term monitoring based on satellite imagery processing. The primary end uses of the monitoring systems will be management bodies of the protected areas involved in the pilot activities. However, by means of transferring actions in the project and sustainable results, secondary end users will be other management bodies of protected areas across the Mediterranean. The overall objective of the action is to improve monitoring, management and networking of protected areas through supporting scientific, technical and management knowledge in order to tackle the problem of incoherent and segregated management of protected areas as self-sustained units, which is believed to hamper protection and promotion of Mediterranean natural resources, as well as maintenance of biodiversity and natural ecosystems.

Achievements (EN):

During this reporting period, one of the main tasks EcoSUSTAIN partnership had in front of them was a major budget reallocation, which has been completed with success. With this reallocation, partnership has also agreed upon two new deliverables which will improve projects final visibility. Furthermore, 4th Partner Meeting, 4th Technical Meeting, 2nd Joint Technical Event and 1st Staff Exchange have been organized in Šibenik, Croatia. The response and feedback for all events was very good and positive. According to the Evaluation Plan, to further advance the management of the project, an internal questionnaire regarding overall satisfaction and performance of the project management was conducted. As according to the AF, development of STMS solution and its corresponding web platform (http://ecosustain.info) have been successfully developed. Moreover, public procurement of the STMS and its installation on the protected areas has finished. Partners have received adequate training for the proper usage of STMS. Partners participated in two horizontal events, Made in MED in Rome, where partners met in person with PANACeA representatives, and PANACeA event in Podgorica. Via Skype meetings with PANACeA representatives, EcoSUSTAIN partners, especially NP's, have agreed on a once per month communication and collaboration on WETLAND factsheets. Second Newsletter has been finished in this reporting period and sent to relevant stakeholders.Visibility of the project has been improved through scientific paper that was based on findings of gap analysis and presented on international conference.
