Description (EN):

Focus on Nodes: Transport nodes as nucleus, start and ending point, for most of the freight transport. Freight transport in nodes has to be organized in a coordinated way by taking into account different transport scales. Challenges throughout the CE-area: Terminals and ports have difficulties to contain the quickly growing freight transport volumes (and thereby channelling these volumes onto sustainable transport modes), due to capacity restraints through planning restrictions. Communication gaps between different actors and stakeholder and a lack in harmonization, especially regarding the incorporation into TEN-T networks Lack of widely known solutions on a technical level, to make transhipment and last mile transport greener. Objectives, Outputs and approach: Facilitating the alignment between regional interest and EC recommendations on freight transport and regional development. Build capacity and ensure the transfer of knowledge on solutions and opportunities across authorities and freight stakeholders Improving coordination among planning authorities and freight transport stakeholders to increase multimodal and sustainable freight solutions for deployment in the CE region, by harmonizing planning methods along the demands of spatial planning, as well as intermodal terminal processes and the demands of the immediate spatial surroundings of the terminals Demonstrating and exchanging methods, processes and technology-implementation-approaches between intermodal terminals throughout the CE region. Thereby harmonizing methods and helping terminals to adapt to the future demands of growing freight transport flows and the necessity to organize terminal processes in a environmently-friendly way. Innovation: Highly innovative, tangible demonstrators, harmonization of planning approaches. Transnational Value: Cooperation and exchange of new technological approaches, methods, strategies and policies.

Achievements (EN):

Transport nodes, like intermodal terminals and ports as well as their immediate surroundings are crucial components of intermodal freight transport in Europe. For reaching an environmentally friendly transformation, they need to be organised in a coordinated way by taking into account different transport scales, modes and spatial restrictions. However, they often have difficulties to cope with the quickly growing freight transport volumes due to capacity restraints through planning restrictions and communication gaps between different actors. The InterGreen-Nodes project aimed to improve coordination among freight transport stakeholders by facilitating the alignment between regional interests and EU recommendations on freight transport and regional development. The partners harmonised planning methods along the demands of spatial planning and improved intermodal terminal processes and the demands of the immediate spatial surroundings of the terminals. This will allow the terminals to better adapt to future demands of growing freight transport flows and the necessity to organise terminal processes in an environmentally-friendly way.

Expected Results (EN): R 4.2 Status of coordination among freight transport stakeholders for increasing multimodal environmentally-friendly freight solutions achieved through transnational cooperation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

InterGreen-Nodes will coordinate the work of authorities and freight transport stakeholders toward the development of technical solutions, pilots technology transfer and take-up beyond the partnership. The expected results are: - Improvement, extension and greening of the intermodal services in 6 terminals during the project lifetime; - Widely recognized and openly promoted demonstrators throughout the CE-region and beyond. - Promoting Improvement, extension and greening of the intermodal in at least 20 more terminals, which than. - 10kg per TEU reduction of CO2 emissions, a reduction that then will be scaled up trough the numbers of terminals (and their transhipment numbers) that adapt the innovations, demonstrated and promoted in InterGreen-Nodes. - Green up the last mile services (electric and LNG vehicles), with joint solutions from intermodal platforms and their operators, with a 10% increase in green transhipments. - Develop tools to assess greening opportunities at terminals and impacts within the corridor; -Identify future development and funding paths, providing policy inputs for future uptake at EU national, regional and local level; -Reach at least 500 freight stakeholders and provide training events for at least 1.300 participants (authorities and stakeholders). - Develop planning methods in six regions and further disseminate these methods to at least 20 more regions within the CE-region through training and promotional activities.
