Models assume that culture and heritage would automatically inspire innovation and new creative entrepreneurship, while researches have shown that this is rarely the case. The conjunction between cultural and creative sectors (CCS) is much more announced then actually proclaimed, it is therefore necessary to challenge and reinterpret the cultural and creative industries (CCIs) category. The main objective of SACHE is to develop and deliver integrated local development strategies based on tools and approaches that would accelerate creative entrepreneurship within and around cultural heritage (CH). The project intends to expand and strengthen the role of CH sites, symbols and values by transforming them into SACHE: “Smart Accelerators of Creative Heritage Entrepreneurship thorough the development of a central European model. Museum, Galleries, Theatres and Festivals will be conceived not only as sites of education or entertainment but also as Accelerators, i.e. cultural engines that mobilize and nurture the energies of small creative business. This will expand the access to CH but also the production of value enhancing services, the development of innovative clustering of CCIs around each SACHE and the fostering of cross-sectorial cooperation with other industrial and service sectors especially in the digital technologies. The keystone of the new approach is the fact that CH has been made increasingly “smart” during the last decades with the introduction of new ICT. The project interprets CH as a platform that can create new services, offer greater intelligence and become more creative. Transnational cooperation will help improving capacities of the public and private sector dealing with protection and sustainable use of CH and resources by supporting integrated approaches. The development and implementation of strategies and policies for valorizing CH and exploiting potentials of CCI will trigger economic opportunities and employment at regional level.

Achievements (EN):

We successfully developed and delivered integrated local development strategies based on tools and approaches that accelerate creative entrepreneurship within and around cultural heritage. It is widely expected that culture and heritage automatically inspire innovation and new creative entrepreneurship but research shows that this is rarely the case. It is therefore necessary to challenge and reinterpret the role of cultural and creative industries (CCIs) for regional development. The SACHE project developed and delivered integrated local development strategies based on tools and approaches that accelerate creative entrepreneurship within and around cultural heritage. The project expanded and strengthened the role of cultural heritage sites, symbols and values by transforming them into “Smart Accelerators of Creative Heritage Entrepreneurship” (SACHE) based on a newly developed central European model. Museums, galleries, theatres and festivals are conceived not only as sites of education or entertainment but also as accelerators, i.e. cultural engines that mobilise and nurture the energies of small creative businesses. This expanded access to cultural heritage as well as the production of value enhancing services, the development of innovative clustering of CCIs around each SACHE. It also helped to foster cross-sectoral cooperation with other industrial and service sectors especially in digital technologies.

Expected Results (EN): R 3.2 Status of capacities of the public and private sector for the sustainable use of cultural heritage and resources achieved through transnational cooperation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Through the development, implementation and transfer of an innovating clustering mode, the project will activate a truly innovative synergy between cultural heritage and creativity. This contribution is relevant because it will re-design the linkages between the elements of this value chain with “Smart Accelerators of Creative Heritage Entrepreneurship (SACHE) where cultural heritage will generate enthusiasm, mobilization and support for the growth of creative (and truly cultural) SMEs. Through this project the EU funding will be used to support local policy makers in the creation of the ideal conditions for creativity and innovation to flourish in a new entrepreneurial spirit of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. This will trigger the full potential and boost the centrality of cultural heritage in order for it to truly act as the accelerator of creativity and innovation in industry and consequently promote entrepreneurship and create new jobs. The model and its transferring to other EU territories will accelerate creative entrepreneurship within and around cultural heritage (CH) making central European cities and regions better places to live and work.
