Description (EN):

The project aims to enhance the use of electric vehicles in city transport systems such as public sector fleets, public transport and bike sharing in order to reduce CO2 emissions and pollution. The partnership of public authorities, business, academia and NGOs explores the potential of e-bikes, e-buses, e-ferries and other e-vehicles. The project guides municipalities and transport planners and operators as well as public and private fleet managers in integrating e-mobility into urban transport strategies. Background: The EU’s targets for the reduction of transport emissions and the aim to phase out conventionally fuelled vehicles in urban transport by 2050 constitute a common challenge for BSR countries. E-vehicles produce significantly less emissions, so they are an ideal means of transport in an urban context, i.e. relatively short distances. While national e-mobility strategies primarily focus on individual car use, other potential applications have received less attention. These applications are addressed by BSR-electric: Electric vehicles and urban logistics; city owned e-logistics; e-bikes for commuting; e-bikes for families; e-buses for public transport; e-scooters for accessibility; and e-ferries (DE, PL, NO). Aims: BSR-electric aims to enhance the utilization of e-mobility for urban transport systems across the Baltic Sea region. It demonstrates potential applications of various types of urban e-mobility solutions. Transnational pilot actions outline how different e-mobility applications can be implemented in practice and guide municipalities, public authorities, planners and transport providers in the process of integrating new solutions into urban transport. Various theme-specific capacity building actions improve knowledge whereas facilitated exchanges enhance the target’s group capacity for informed decision-making. Activities: The project compiles an overview of current use of e-mobility in the Baltic Sea region and analyses the stakeholders. The partners share their findings from demonstration actions, feasibility studies, and stakeholder analyses. The project draws up a Baltic Sea region roadmap on e-mobility, compiling best practices and results to ensure replicability across the region

Achievements (EN):

The project successfully implemented five webinars, which reached more than 100 representatives of local municipalities, private enterprises, public enterprises, ministries or other national authorities. During webinars, key findings from the following case topics were presented: e-bikes, e-buses, e-logistics, e-scooters and e-ferries, in order to increase knowledge of public authorities and transport planners on implementing e-mobility solutions in urban settings. First results indicate that using e-buses, e-scooters, and e-bikes in urban infrastructure helps reduce carbon emissions and significantly lowers air and noise pollution. Furthermore, the project carried out a set of international capacity building seminars: one in Hamburg (October 2017) with an overview on e-mobility, one in Turku (March 2018) focusing on the ways to implement electro-mobility in the Baltic Sea region, and one in Hoeje-Taastrup (October 2018) about e-vehicles and infrastructures for urban freight and goods transport. http://interreg-baltic.eu/project/bsr-electric/
