Fan-BEST is aimed at promoting the transfer of technology to SMEs in blue biotechnology and the use of marine resources through a network of public and private entities focused on raising funds for the creation and scaling phase. Funds such as ventura, business angels, participatory loan or crowdfunding will be offered for tools and services so that technologies and innovations “made in” Atlantic regions can reach the market converted into successful business projects.

FAN-BEST se dirige a promover la transferencia de tecnología a PYMEs en biotecnología azul y uso de recursos marinos por medio de una red de entidades públicas y privadas enfocada a captar fondos para la fase de creación y escalado. Fondos como ventura, business angels, préstamo participativo o crowdfunding se ofrecerán por herramientas y servicios para que las tecnologías e innovaciones “made in” regiones atlánticas puedan alcanzar el mercado convertidas en proyectos de negocio exitosos.

FAN-BEST visa promover a transferência de tecnologia para PMEs especializadas em biotecnologia azul e utilização de recursos marinhos, através de uma rede de entidades públicas e privadas focada em captar fundos para a fase de criação e escala. Fundos como capital de risco, business angels e financiamento colaborativo serão propostos através de ferramentas e serviços para que a tecnologia e inovação criadas nas regiões atlânticas possam entrar no mercado enquanto projetos de negócio de sucesso.

FAN-BEST vise à encourager le transfert de technologie aux PME de biotechnologie bleue ou liées aux ressources marines via un réseau de structures publiques et privées spécialisées dans la collecte de fonds pour les phases de création. Des fonds comme les capital-risque, business angels, prêt ou financement participatif seront proposés au travers d’outils et services, afin que les technologies et innovations «made in» Région Atlantique puissent accéder au marché sous forme de projets.

Achievements (EN):

The Atlantic Area business environment is composed mainly of SMEs whose innovation capacity is undermined by the disconnection between the business environment and the innovation systems. Companies linked to the maritime economy have difficulties in accessing external financing to undertake innovative projects and develop value products. These factors can block their possibilities to grow and become more competitive in a global market. The FANBEST project aims to support SMEs in blue biotechnology and the exploitation of marine resources by creating a network of public and private entities focused on the fundraising to make possible the start and scale-up phases. Access to funds and investors can help technologies and innovations “made in Atlantic regions” to reach the market and be turned into successful business projects. Thus, to increase the offer the project created a portfolio of funds and available financial instruments, a training programme and a handbook for coaches aimed to support innovative start-ups and new enterprises. It also provided more availability of funds outside banks such as venture capital, business angels or equity loans, suitable for operating in the transnational blue technology market. FANBEST also improved the ecosystem for future beneficiaries by creating a “Stock Market” platform, updated with technology and innovations with potential for industrial use of marine and maritime resources. Furthermore, a joint coaching programme was launched giving support to 13 innovation projects at selected SMEs. Finally, the creation of a Helpdesks Network specialised in supporting blue economy aimed to bring together diverse stakeholders such as agents and investors. These platforms will be a lasting result making the project have a wider impact. "The programme helped HydroWing Ltd simplify our business model and create materials and methods that allow us to communicate more compellingly to investors. Expected Results (EN):

- Improving the information about the financing needs and the potential of technology transfer. - Taking advantage of the knowledge and opportunities that represent business angels of the maritime economy that do not have the necessary size to access to R+D projects investment. - Improvement of skills and abilities of the support services for entrepreneurs and spin-offs . - Exploration and exploitation of university R+D in all their potential. - Increasing the funds and financial instruments available for innovation and scaling up in SMEs linked with marine resources sustainable exploitation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

- Portfolio of funds and financial instruments and Manual for financing innovation in start- ups and new companies in Atlantic regions; - Helpdesks Network specialized in marine resources and blue biotechnology that has identified the map of agents, investors and financial instruments an platforms to match the needs of funding of innovation. - Platform as “STOCK MARKET” updated with technology and innovations with big potential for industrial use of marine and maritime resources. - More availability of funds outside banks such venture capital, business angels, participative loan, other companies or crowdfunding initiatives, suitable to operate at transnational market of blue technology. - New set of financing instrument designed and tested by partners. - Coaching of 7 blue bio technological projects or based on innovative and sustainable use of marine resources, involving producer centers of research results, companies and financers.
