Bezogen auf die Emissionen von Wohngebäuden innerhalb der NWE-Projektkulisse, die für den Ausstoß von 300 Mio. Tonnen CO2 verantwortlich sind, ist notwendig, die durch die EU gesetzten Ziele für den CO2-Ausstoß zu erreichen. RED WoLF hat sich dabei zum Ziel gesetzt, die Nutzung erneuerbarer Energien zu erhöhen und CO2-basierte Emissionen, speziell in Haushalten mit Photovoltaik und ohne Erdgasanschluss (sog. PVHs), zu reduzieren. Hierzu sollen Hybrid-Speichersysteme (HSS) in 100 PVHs in Form von Pilotobjekten eingesetzt werden, die Batterien mit preiswerten Speicherheizungen (StHs) kombinieren, um Strom als Wärme zu speichern und Häuser auf Abruf in den nächsten 24 Stunden aufheizen. HSSs speichern die PV-Leistung aus PVHs und ersetzen somit fossile Energie durch CO2-arme Energie (Wind/Solar) aus dem Netz, wenn die Nachfrage gering ist. Der Bedarf liegt bei 120% des Tagesdurchschnitts von ca. 6 bis 9 Uhr und von 16 bis 20 Uhr, wenn Must-run- und Spitzen-Kraftwerke zur Deckung des Bedarfs eingeschaltet werden. Heute, an sonnigen/windbelasteten Tagen, wird die Leistung von Solar-/Windparks reduziert und sauberer Strom verschwendet: Jedes Jahr können in NWE bis zu 6% der verfügbaren Windenergie nicht gesammelt werden. Die Erzeugung von PVHs wird unabhängig vom Bedarf des Netzes in das Netz exportiert, was die Diskrepanz zwischen Erzeugung und Nachfrage erhöht, da die installierte PV-Leistung in NWE um 3 GW/a wächst. 215 Tonnen CO2 pro Jahr werden in 100 PVHs vermieden, die in 6 RED WoLF-Pilotregionen zusammengefasst sind. So werden Pilotvorhaben in Großbritannien, Frankreich und Irland mit HSSs ausgestattet oder nachgerüstet; Deutschland wird als wichtiger Zielmarkt angesehen. Bis zum Projektende werden die HSSs marktreif sein und sich über die Territorien der Partnerländer als eigene Marktmodelle auf die gesamte NWE-Pilotkulisse verteilen. HSSs wird in die Richtlinien und die Geschäftsmodelle der Partner eingehen und sich in der NWE Region ausbreiten.

Répondre aux objectifs de l’UE sur la réduction des émissions carbone, nécessite des propositions innovantes dans le domaine de l’habitat qui rejette 300 millions de tonnes de CO2 par an. RED WOLF a pour but d’augmenter l’usage de l’énergie renouvelable pour réduire l’émission CO2 de maisons équipées de panneaux PhotoVoltaïques non raccordés au Gaz (PVnG). Un Système de Stockage Hybrides (SSH)sera développé et déployé dans 100 maisons PVnG. Elles seront équipées de batteries avec des Radiateurs à Accumulation à faible coût capables de stocker de la chaleur pour réchauffer à la demande les habitations sur un horizon de 24h. Les SSHs stockeront à la fois l’énergie produite in situ par les PVHs et les énergies vertes (vent, solaire) transportées par le réseau électrique lorsque la demande sera faible. Les pics de consommation (120% de la moyenne quotidienne) ont lieu entre 6h et 9h et entre 16h et 20h quand la production d’électricité est fortement carbonée. Actuellement, durant les journées venteuses ou ensoleillées, la production des parcs éoliens et solaires est réduite et l’énergie propre est donc gaspillée : Chaque année, dans les régions de NWE, jusqu’à 6% de l’énergie de l’éolien est perdue. De plus, les maisons PVnG reversent leur production électrique locale dans le réseau électrique indépendamment des besoins de celui-ci, ce qui augmente le déséquilibre entre la demande et la production sachant que la capacité des PV augmente de 3GW/an dans la région NWE. 100 maisons PVnG seront dotées de SSH autour de 6 sites pilotes situés au Royaume Uni, en France et en Irlande avec pour objectif d’éviter le rejet de 215 tonnes/an de CO2. A la fin du projet, SSH sera une solution commercialisable dans tous les pays partenaires. SSH fera partie intégrante de la politique commerciale des partenaires et sera ensuite diffusé dans toute la région NWE.

Description (EN):

Addressing NWE housing emissions, responsible for approximately 300 million tonnes of CO2/yr, is a key step to reach EU goals of sustainable growth and carbon reduction. RED WoLF will increase renewables' usage and reduce CO2 emission for Homes with PhotoVoltaics without gas connection (PVHs from now on): each of 100 new/existing PVHs, grouped in Pilots provided to RED WoLF by enterprises and Public Authorities (PAs) partners, will be endowed with a Hybrid Storage System (HSS). HSSs will merge batteries and cheap “Storage Heaters” (StHs). StHs provide domestic space heating on demand to individual rooms within 24 hr. HSSs will store houses' PV output and low-CO2 energy (wind/solar) drawn from the Power Grid at times of low demand. This will remove the generation-demand temporal mismatch currently hindering renewables growth: when demand is low on sunny/windy days, output of solar/wind-farms must be reduced. Every year, up to 6% of available wind energy cannot be gathered in NWE, wasting the cleanest Grid electricity. Demand peaks at 120% of the daily average from approximately 6 to 9AM and from 4P to 8PM, when inefficient, CO2-intensive ”load-following” plants are activated to meet demand. PVHs generation is today exported to the Grid regardless of Grid’s needs, which exacerbates the generation-demand temporal mismatch as NWE installed PV capacity grows by 3 GW/yr. The 100 Pilot PVHs will reduce CO2 emissions by 215 tonnes/yr. RED WoLF Pilots will consist of 6 sets of either new-build or renovated PVHs, with HSS installation, in UK, FR and IE. By the project's end, the HSS will be market-ready and will be adopted across the territories in the partnership. HSS will be included in policies and every-day business of RED WoLF partners, and will eventually be rolled out across the whole NWE. A consortium will be founded to facilitate HSS adoption by stakeholders external to RED WoLF.

Expected Outputs (EN): The Grid follows PVHs' load with on-demand, high-CO2 electricity: 100 PVHs currently cause 400 tonnes/yr of CO2 across NWE. Batteries and heat storage exist but the number of home-deployed units is virtually zero, which reduces renewables' growth.
