Energy Pathfinder aims to support owners of historic buildings in the NPA region and in Europe, by building and demonstrating an on-line Toolkit, which enables the culturally and socially appropriate energy retrofit of historic buildings. To support this Toolkit, Pathfinder! Will draw experiences from the application of co-design processes (involving users and residents), from relevant retrofit measures and renewable energy installations, and from user-engagement and improved energy behaviour experiences. The Toolkit and component actions will allow building owners to consider working towards Near Zero Energy (NZEB) standards. Pathfinder will monitor actual energy use in 5 demonstrator historic buildings, both before and after retrofit, and establish the benefit of different measures. This will include both centralized and decentralized energy management and improved energy behaviour. Energy Pathfinder will evaluate the business case for retrofit and for energy management in historic buildings, demonsrating that they can be sustainable from and energy and CO2 perspective, economically viable and socially and culturally relevant. Energy Pathfinder brings together Partners from 5 NPA regions, encompassing a comprehensive range wide range of skills, building types, climatic conditions, and cultural and regulatory environments. Associate partners will help integrate local authorities, building owners and other key stakeholders into the Project. 6 demonstrator historic building will be used to demonstrate the key elements of the Toolkit, including co-design, insulation, renewable energy, and energy monitoring and management. These demonstrators will provide data for the on-line Toolkit. The results of the project will be widely promoted and disseminated through a comprehensive communication programme.

Expected Results (EN): Awareness of energy efficiency opportunities and renewable solutions in housing sector and public infrastructures in remote and sparsely populated areas

Expected Outputs (EN):

Energy Pathfinder results will be the development and demonstration of a Tool Kit for achieving Near Zero Energy Building Standards in historic buildings, in remote and peripheral rural and peri-urban areas, and 6 Demonstrator projects in different regions that illustrate their approach. This methodology and measures that will be disseminated in the Toolkit will include: - Strategies for fabric retrofitting, upgrading of installations and integration of appropriate renewable energy sources, both in and outside the designated sites. - Participation of building users and managers in development of works and strategies to reduce energy consumption and increase generation. - 6 Demonstrators in different regions of viable co-designed scenarios for retrofitting and integration of renewable energy sources (such as solar, thermal, biomass and storage) in historic buildings. - Appropriate energy monitoring and management installation that can measure energy consumption and segregate key appliances. - Analysis of energy usage and implementation of appropriate behavioural changes to reduce energy consumption. - Promotion of uses of historic buildings as centres for initiatives to increase community awareness and social cohesion and integration. - The production of a usable Tool Kit containing the results of the Project, which will be made widely available through appropriate media. _ Evaluation of the overall impact (in terms of energy use, energy management, CO2 footprint, user engagement and value to the community) of the Toolkit and its implementation on selected demonstrator buildings. - Broad dissemination of project results, aimed at promoting replication of strategies to renovate historic buildings in remote regions to Near Zero Energy standards. In addition to the specific results achieved during the Project life, it is expected that the retrofitting of many more historic buildings will be encouraged by the results of the Project after its completion. The durability of the Toolkit will be ensured by the consortium selecting a private or public service provider to maintain and update the Toolkit after the Project end. However, all material will be available free of charge for 5 years after the project end.
