De nombreux arboriculteurs sont en attente de nouveaux modes de lutte contre des ravageurs de manière « propre » et durable. Actuellement, la méthode la plus utilisée pour lutter contre les nuisibles en vergers est le traitement chimique qui est extrêmement coûteux et entraîne des effets secondaires sur la santé des travailleurs, des consommateurs, sur la qualité des fruits (présence de résidus chimiques), la biodiversité en milieu agricole ou encore la qualité des eaux (pollution). De plus, ces dernières années de plus en plus de produits insecticides ont été interdits (directive européenne 2009/128/CE, Ecophyto (France), NAPAN (Belgique)). Le projet PROVERBIO vise la mise au point d’une technique de lutte biologique innovante par l’utilisation d’insectes parasitoïdes adaptés aux régions tempérées et ayant un impact nul sur l’environnement. Le projet se focalise sur les ravageurs les plus problématiques : le puceron cendré du pommier, le psylle du poirier et les pucerons des fraisiers. Les lâchers de parasitoïdes dans les cultures soulèvent deux enjeux majeurs auxquels il est nécessaire de répondre de façon innovante : le climat et la dispersion. Ce projet permet de diminuer significativement l’application de traitements insecticides sur des centaines d’hectares de vergers et champs de fraises, entraînant ainsi une réduction importante de leur impact négatif sur les travailleurs agricoles les plus exposés et sur l’environnement. En apportant une solution originale et respectueuse de l’environnement à la protection des vergers et champs de fraises, PROVERBIO s’inscrit dans une logique d’innovation technologique, de partage de compétences à tous les acteurs du milieu (arboriculteurs et chercheurs), et d’un soutien aux entreprises par la création de nouveaux produits et de nouveaux emplois.

Talrijke fruittelers zijn vragende partij naar nieuwe, schone en duurzame bestrijdingsmiddelen tegen insectenplagen. Vandaag is de meest gebruikte bestrijdingsmethode tegen ongedierte op fruitpercelen de chemische behandeling, die uiterst duur is en neveneffecten heeft op de gezondheid van de werknemers, de consumenten, de kwaliteit van het fruit (aanwezigheid van chemische residuen), de biodiversiteit in het landbouwmilieu of de waterkwaliteit (vervuiling). Bovendien werden de laatste jaren steeds meer insecticiden verboden (Europese Richtlijn 2009/128/EG, Ecophyto (Frankrijk), NAPAN (België)). Het project PROVERBIO beoogt de ontwikkeling van een innovatieve, biologische bestrijdingstechniek door het gebruik van parasitoïde insecten, aangepast aan regio’s met een gematigd klimaat en zonder impact op het milieu. Het project richt zich op de meest problematische plagen: de roze appelluis, de perenbladvlo en bladluizen in aardbeien. De introductie van parasitoïden in de gewassen gaat gepaard met twee grote uitdagingen, die op een innovatieve manier moeten worden aangepakt: het klimaat en de verspreiding. Dit project zal het mogelijk maken de toepassing van insecticidenbehandelingen op honderden hectaren boomgaarden en aardbeienplantages aanzienlijk terug te dringen, wat leidt tot een grote vermindering van hun negatieve impact op de landarbeiders die het meest worden blootgesteld en op het milieu. Door een originele en milieuvriendelijke oplossing te bieden voor de bescherming van de boomgaarden en fruitplantages kadert PROVERBIO in een logica van technologische innovatie, het delen van competenties met alle actoren van de sector (telers en onderzoekers), en de steun aan de ondernemingen door de creatie van nieuwe producten en nieuwe banen.

Many tree growers are anticipating new ways to control pests in a “clean” and sustainable way. Currently, the most widely used method to control pests in orchards is chemical treatment, which is extremely costly and has secondary effects on the health of workers, consumers, fruit quality (presence of chemical residues), biodiversity in agricultural environments and water quality (pollution). In addition, in recent years more and more insecticide products have been banned (European Directive 2009/128/EC, Ecophyto (France), NAPAN (Belgium)). The PROVERBIO project aims to develop an innovative biological control technique using parasitoid insects adapted to temperate regions and having no impact on the environment. The project focuses on the most problematic pests: apple aphid, pear psylla and strawberry aphids. Parasitoid releases into crops raise two major issues that need to be addressed in an innovative way: climate and dispersion. This project significantly reduces the application of insecticide treatments on hundreds of hectares of orchards and strawberry fields, significantly reducing their negative impact on the most exposed agricultural workers and the environment. By providing an original and environmentally friendly solution to the protection of orchards and strawberry fields, PROVERBIO focuses on technological innovation, sharing skills with all stakeholders in the field (tree growers and researchers), and supporting companies by creating new products and new jobs.

Expected Results (FR): Le projet permettra de développer une véritable collaboration entre différents pôles de recherche en les mettant en contact. Le projet devrait déboucher sur la mise en place de nouvelles collaborations soutenues et l'élaboration de nouveaux projets.

Expected Results (NL): Het project zal verschillende onderzoekspolen met elkaar in contact brengen en hen de gelegenheid bieden echt samen te werken. Het zou moeten leiden tot nieuwe, langdurige samenwerkingen en de ontwikkeling van nieuwe projecten.

Expected Results (EN): The project will make it possible to develop a fully-fledged collaboration between different research poles by bringing them together. The project should lead to the establishment of new sustained collaborations and the development of new projects.

Les établissements de recherche impliqués dans le projet mettront à disposition leur réseau professionnel afin de communiquer les résultats directement aux personnes concernées. Le projet vise à remplacer les traitements insecticides par une lutte biologique et économiquement accessible pour les arboriculteurs. le développement de labels sans pesticides permettra d'augmenter l'attractivité vis-à-vis du grand public et ainsi d'améliorer la compétitivité des arboriculteurs régionaux. De plus, la production d'insectes pour la lutte bilogique devrait produire une nouvelle activité et ainsi créer de nouveaux emplois. De manière générale, c'est las anté du producteur et du consommateur qui sera améliorée, ainsi que l'accessibilité au marché bio.

De bij het project betrokken onderzoeksinstellingen zullen hun professionele netwerk ter beschikking stellen om de resultaten rechtstreeks aan de betrokken personen mee te delen. Het project beoogt de vervanging van insecticidenbehandelingen door biologische bestrijdingsmethoden, die economisch haalbaar zijn voor de telers. De ontwikkeling van pesticidevrije labels zal de aantrekkelijkheid bij het grote publiek verhogen en het concurrentievermogen van de regionale telers verbeteren. Bovendien moet de productie van insecten voor de biologische bestrijding een nieuwe activiteit en dus nieuwe banen creëren. In algemene termen komt dit alles de gezondheid van de producent en de consument ten goede, alsook de toegankelijkheid tot de biomarkt.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The research institutions involved in the project will make their professional network available to communicate the results directly to the persons concerned. The project aims to replace insecticide treatments with biological and economically accessible control for tree growers. The development of pesticide-free labels will increase attractiveness to the general public and thus improve the competitiveness of regional tree growers. In addition, the production of insects for biliary control should give rise to a new activity and thus create new jobs. The overall impact will be an improvement in the health of the producer and consumer, as well as a better accessibility of the organic market.
