Description (EN):

The common challenge of the programme area is to foster growth, competitiveness and innovation of micro and SME enterprises (MSMEs). In this frame, FOOD4HEALTH (F4H) aims to improve production techniques and the transfer, sharing and adoption of EU quality standards for the processing and enhancement of typical and traditional products of the agri-food sector and fisheries. The project originates from Puglia Region experience in issues related to the enhancement and qualification of typical products and consumer health protection (The Apulian Lifestyle, Agriculture and Quality) and common needs to support small local businesses to access the market in the cross-border area. The main outputs are: 1. Report on best practices on quality food and consumer health; 1 Poolicy paper adopted in the cross-border area; 1 Basket of local products enhanced (F4H Label) in the frame of promotional events (Fairs, B2B). 5 Clusters among research and business actors; 5 FOOD4HEALTH community Labs; 1 ITC tool. The pilot activities developed in the 5 FOOD4HEALTH COMMUNITY LABS will be carried out for demonstrative purposes on transferring innovative production techniques and processes in order to improve the quality and food safety of the main traditional products areas. The innovative approach is the result of the collaboration among institutional, scientific and private stakeholders. This is strengthened through living labs, open databases and ICT tools which make it possible to share innovative solutions among start-ups and innovative MSMEs. These approaches will encourage the use of advanced ITC (F4H platform), thus fostering synergy between public authorities-enterprises-consumers. Capacity building in the cooperation area (institutional meetings, policy papers) will complete the project approach by improving the cross-border framework conditions for the agri-food and fishery competitiveness of MSMEs. Information added on 2020-05-14, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): This project, aimed at promoting innovative production techniques in the agro-food and fisheries sectors, enhanced a planned project output - an ICT platform - as an advanced tool to allow sharing innovative solutions among start-ups, MSMEs and research centres, so as to mitigate the economic effects of the Covid-19 crisis.

Expected Results (EN): Common interventions aimed to improve the cross border framework conditions in which the facilitators of competitiveness operate

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main results expected from the FOOD4HEALTH project are: a) Enhanced MSME’s cooperation and competitiveness through better interaction among the business and research actors b) Entrepreneurial mind sets, skills and attitudes strengthened. Better interaction among the business and research actors will be favoured through the clusters established in the agri-food and fisheries sectors. The key stakeholders of the areas involved (researchers, MSMEs, business actors, start-ups, young associations, etc.) will be involved in the co-design of the activities of the "F4H Labs" as well as in the capacity building and thematic demonstration activities. This will lead to empowered innovation clusters and networks of the cross-border area. With no. 5 Food4Health Coomunity Labs, incubation services and knowledge transfer will be implemented to favour a change in the entrepreneurial mind sets and innovative attitudes and competences of the micro and SMEs enterprises of the area.
