Description (EN):

The growth of tourism in the Mediterranean, especially in coastal areas, and the effects of climate change will continue to affect landscapes, soil and coasts stability/erosion, put pressure on species and water resources, and increase waste and pollution discharges into the sea. In this context, the Co-Evolve4BG project aims at analyzing and promoting the co-evolution of human activities and natural eco-systems in touristic coastal areas, towards sustainable development of tourist activities based on the principles of Integrated Coast Zone Management (ICZM) and Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), promoting at the same time Blue Growth in the Mediterranean. The analysis and the demonstration actions foreseen by the project will enhance sustainable coastal and maritime tourism development fully exploiting the Blue Economy potential, promoting the creation of business and job opportunities in the field of ecosystem-oriented services, coastal and maritime tourism, coastal management and adaptation to climate change. Co-Evolve4BG is part of a wider project, “Med Coast for Blue Growth” labelled by the 43 Countries of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Achievements (EN):

The Transferability Plan at Pilot Areas, regional scale and Mediterranean scale of the Co-Evolve4BG project aims to coordinate the transfer and capitalization of knowledge, expertise, and tools developed in the framework of the project implementation The Transferability Plan is a tool for sharing and disseminating the acquired knowledge. It reinforces the creation and successful promotion of strong and long-term network relationships at the national and Med scale and increases awareness among practitioners and experts. The Transferability Plan succeeded the cooperation between stakeholders, securing the connectivity of all the partners, and, thus, serving as a prior strategy for the ongoing implementation of the Co-Evolve4BG project’s results. The Transferability Plan involved all types of potential end-users and stakeholders; Regional and National Authorities, Municipalities, NGOs/citizens, Scientists/Experts, tourism operators, associations, users, and donors. It targets on specific group of audiences; (a) Authorities, decision-makers, (b) Planners, experts, and (c) pecific target audiences with the vision of fulfilling their needs. The Blue Growth of coastal/marine areas in the Mediterranean responding to the principles of ICZM and MSP is the area of impact. Every Pilot Area of the Co-Evolve4BG project defined special needs to be solved, taking into consideration the results came from the areas’ diagnosis and the toolkit implementation, but also the knowledge transferable from one pilot area to another and the exchange of experience. The outputs created would force other coastal/marine areas to make similar moves towards succeeding in their sustainable tourism. Many groups of people are potential users of the results of the project, including governmental bodies, residents, and entrepreneurs. The building capacity of the Co-Evolve4BG involvers would lead to connecting with other structures nationally and/or internationally to exceed the Co-Evolve4BG project.

Expected Results (EN):

1 integrated analysis of threats and enabling factors for sustainable tourism at Mediterranean level. 1 toolkit containing indicators to analyse the level of sustainability of tourism. 2 rounds of training addressed to partners and local actors involved in pilot actions. 7 pilot actions for developing sustainable tourism in the pilot areas.

Expected Outputs (EN): 3.1 - Integrated analysis of threats and enabling factors for sustainable tourism at MED scale, 3.2 - Tourism sustainability analysis toolkit, 4.1 - Training material and courses, 4.2 - Implemented actions for developing sustainable tourism in the pilot areas.
