Description (EN):

The hotel industry in the Mediterranean is one of the most important worldwide and continues to register significant growth. This success with local/international tourist comes with several environmental drawbacks such as the substantial consumption of water and energy. With the aim of helping hotels to stay competitive and improve at the same time their capacity of eco-innovation, GREENinMED project proposes an integrated approach for the development of new products and services addressed to the efficient use of water and energy and reduction in consumption by 10% in the hotel industry. The project will develop eco-innovative products such a seawater air conditioning, water and energy-saving devices for spa, garden irrigation and industrial cold generation. To reach this ambition, consulting services focusing on the identification of the eco-innovative products and services on and their adaptation to actual needs/contexts will be delivered to selected hotels. Furthermore, the purchase of new equipment to improve research and testing capacities of SMEs and the creation of spin-offs will be facilitated through sub-grants.

Achievements (EN):

The GREENinMED project funded by the ENI CBC MED Programme from 2019 to 2023, has supported 150 SMES including both tourism establishments and solutions providers, thanks to a consortium of 5 partners from France, Israel and Spain: The Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Spain (Lead partner), Capenergies French cluster of the energy transition, ARAVA Institute for Environmental studies, - Kinneret Academic College in the Jordan Valley, Israel Water Association. From this transnational experience, the following Guidelines on Eco-Innovation for the Mediterranean Hotel Industry have been identified. This practical guide aims to help professionals of the tourism sector in the Euro-Mediterranean area, as well as in other regions, to discover and capitalize on the lessons learned by the GREENinMED beneficiaries. The practical guide helps the comprehension and adoption of eco-innovations applied to water and energy in the tourism sector.

Expected Results (EN):

1 strategy on eco-innovation for the Mediterranean hotel industry. 1 cross-border eco-Innovation support center. 8 sub-grants to purchase innovative products, services, equipment. 30 innovation vouchers . 15 eco-innovative products and services designed specifically for the hotel industry. 5 spin-offs created out of the project.

Expected Outputs (EN):

3.1 - Setting up of collaborative Cross Border Value Chains on eco-innovation., 3.2 - GREENinMED Cross-Border Eco-Innovation Support Center, 3.3 - Innovation voucher, 4.1 - Financial support to purchase innovative products, services, equipment, 4.2 - Fund-raising sessions/ Pitching sessions in Israel (financial support for the project’s spin offs), 4.3 - Guidelines on Eco-Innovation for the Mediterranean Hotel Industry.
