Description (EN):

The general objective of the project is to improve the state of the natural environment of the Goldapa and Wegorapa rivers. The entire area covered under the project lies in the fishing basin of the Pregola river, which flows into the Baltic Sea near Kaliningrad. Quality of water in the Wegorapa river flowing across the Polish-Russian boarder in the municipality of Banie Mazurskie constitutes the natural heritage of both countries. Water quality goes beyond borders, as it directly affects people living on either side of the border. Direct objectives of the project include: 1. Improving the quality of water in the Goldapa and Wegorapa rivers by reducing the pollution of ground and surface waters resulting from leaking septic tanks and illegal discharge of sewage. 2. Regulating water and sewage management in the area along the Polish-Russian border by fulfilling the requirements of the Directive 91/271/EEC.
